After supporters of President Donald Trump chanted “CNN sucks” at his campaign rally in Sanford, Florida on Monday night, CNN’s Jim Acosta reacted to the rallygoers on “The Situation Room.”

As CNN’s chief White House correspondent, Acosta appeared to mock Trump supporters by saying that contracting COVID-19 would also “suck.”

Jim Acosta: ‘I Should Also Point Out What Also Sucks — Getting the Coronavirus’

“And as this crowd is chanting that there are members of the press here who suck, I should also point out what also sucks — getting the coronavirus,” Acosta said.

President Trump has called CNN “fake news” frequently throughout his nearly four years in office.

Particularly regarding their coverage of alleged collusion between Russia and the Commander-in-Chief during the 2016 presidential election.

Following the conclusion of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s “Russian collusion” investigation last year, CNN’s ratings dropped significantly.

‘Fake News’ CNN Suffered In The Ratings After the Mueller Report

The New York Post reported in May 2019, “CNN’s prime-time ratings plunged 26% in April — the cable news network’s worst month for total viewers since October 2015, according to Nielsen Media Research.”

“The network suffered a 41% slide in viewers aged 25 to 54 — the demographic most coveted by advertisers,” the Post continued. “And not one of its prime-time shows finished in the top five for news.”

The report noted, “CNN’s ‘Cuomo Prime Time,’ which airs during the network’s highest-rated hour, finished in 26th place.”

Ouch.

Ever since the phony “Russiagate” scandal, which again, CNN covered heavily, accusations that the cable news outlet produced “fake news” stung worse than ever.

Trump supporters chanting “CNN sucks” Monday was just icing on that cake.

Jim Acosta’s knee-jerk reaction might have even made it sweeter.
