Fox News was the most-viewed cable news channel in primetime on Thursday, impressively beating out CNN’s “Town Hall” with former FBI Director James Comey, with almost double the amount of viewers.
Early Nielsen Media Research tallied the numbers, which were given to The Daily Caller News Foundation from a Fox spokeswoman.
During the 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. time slot, Fox averaged 3.1 million viewers with 657,000 in the coveted 25-54 demo, while CNN only brought in 1.6 million.
“Tucker Carlson Tonight” was the most-watched program on cable at 8 p.m. with a whopping 2.8 million viewers, beating CNN’s “Town Hall” at 1,647,000 — although the two tied in the prime 25-54 demo at 559,000.
From 9 p.m. -10 p.m., Fox’s “Hannity” had 3,508,000 total viewers and a massive 754,000 in the prime demo, while CNN saw a drop in viewership in the second hour of the Town Hall to 1,602,000. Fox also beat CNN in the prime demo 754,000 to 532,000. Even MSNBC’s “Maddow” only saw 600,000 in the 25-54 category.
Despite the special with Comey, CNN placed third in the three major cable networks. Even though the progressive news network had no special programming Thursday night, MSNBC still brought in 2,211,000 total viewers.
