Here’s Why Michelle Obama Hates Trump But Loves George W. Bush

In an interview for her new memoir Becoming, Michelle Obama opened up about what most would assume is her unlikely friendship with former President George W. Bush and explained what she dislikes about the current political discourse.

Obama joined Jenna Bush Hager of NBC News for a conversation about the former’s friendship with ‘W,’ something I’ve been critical of in the past, but something that’s also earned her praise from the left.

One segment in particular shows how the former First Lady despises President Trump and finds Bush to be a “sweet,” “funny,” and “kind man.”

“I guess we’ve become a culture where the nasty sells,” Mrs. Obama lamented about the current political scene. “So people are just gonna keep feeding that.”

“We’re all Americans. We all care about our family and our kids, and we’re tryin’ to get ahead,” she continued. “And that’s how I feel about your father. You know? He’s a beautiful, funny, kind, sweet man.”

It’s a veiled shot, but a shot nonetheless, referring to the Trump era of politics as ‘nasty’ and fawning over the Bush and Obama era.

Michelle Obama’s hate for Trump

In her memoir, Obama has made her disdain for President Trump quite clear.

The former First Lady attacks Trump in the book by calling his birther claims – claims begun by the Hillary Clinton campaign – bigoted, xenophobic, and racist.

She claimed that his “reckless innuendos” were “putting (her) family’s safety at risk.”

“For this I’d never forgive him,” she wrote.

In interviews for the memoir, Mrs. Obama also attacks First Lady Melania Trump for not seeking her out for advice as to how to handle her role in the White House.

Love for Bush

Jenna Bush mentioned the famous hug between Michelle Obama and former President Bush at a dedication of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture.

“I mean that hug,” the Bush twin fawned, “was, like, the hug that went around the world. I do love that picture.”

As for the Bushes, their dislike of President Trump has also been readily apparent.

Former President George H.W. Bush labeled Trump a “blowhard” and admitted he cast his vote for Hillary. President George W. Bush said he and wife Laura Bush didn’t vote for either candidate. Neither man endorsed Trump, despite sharing some obvious values, platforms, and a common fundamental difference with Hillary.

At Trump’s inauguration, Mrs. Obama explains that she was so distraught at the notion of Hillary not succeeding them and creating a third Obama term, she “stopped even trying to smile.”

That, in and of itself, brings smiles to our faces.
