Why in the World Is the New Jersey Governor a Dallas Cowboys Fan?

It doesn’t make sense. The governor of New Jersey – the state that’s home to the stadium where the New York Jets and New York Giants play, and located just across the river from the Philadelphia Eagles – is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. How Chris Christie gets away with cheering for a team 1,500 miles away that’s also a major divisional rival of the Giants and Eagles, I’ll never understand. I know that would never fly in my hometown of Boston – any candidate that didn’t pledge complete fidelity to the Patriots/Red Sox/Bruins/Celtics would be burnt at the stake.

Maybe Christie now feels free to let his Cowboys flag fly because he’s a lame duck governor. Or maybe he’s trying to appeal to conservative Texas and middle America by supporting “America’s Team” ahead of running for president. On the other hand, there are plenty of Cowboy haters across the country that he just ticked off, and the image of him in a luxury owner’s box embracing a billionaire is sure to be used over and over in future campaign ads against him. Either way, the video that came out of Sunday night’s NFC Wild Card playoff game is just embarrassing.

Watch Governor Chris Christie making a fool of himself with Dallas Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones and some other random dude after the team came back to beat the Detroit Lions 24-20:

But as bad as that is, it still doesn’t beat Christie’s warm embrace of President Obama just days before the 2012 presidential election that may have swung the election. That was truly unforgivable and should be the reason his candidacy is sacked.

  • I am not a huge fan of Christie's, but he should have the right to root for whatever team he wants to. This is a ridiculous article and was a waste of time to read. Who cares?! So he roots for the Cowboys, so what? The area I am from, I am supposed to root for the Broncos, but absolutely HATE them ever since John Elway, the cry-baby, was QB. These are NFL teams, not local high school teams where loyalty is expected. You should be at LIBERTY to pick whatever team you like to win and not be bound by geographical boundaries.

  • Then again why does a paper pick sides and not tell the truth on both? Why always pick one side to put down Oh but you can bad mouth a person who like a sports team COME ON starting telling the truih on all things not one sided baby talk.

  • Since when do you have to cheer a states team on. If you want crazy, I am a Buc's fan, and now live in NJ.

  • He's been.a Cowboys fan since he was a small child. Personally, I don't blame him. I wouldn't root for teams from those cesspools like New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Maybe he's planning a move to Texas like thousands of others from those cities and the northeast in general to escape the miserable weather, high taxes, crime, unemployment and unaffordable housing that tends to be the norm in liberal bastions.

  • This my friends is not a photo of a future president. He looks as childish as Obama on the golf course. Don't care who his favorite team is, jumping around like some high schooler and acting the fool does not impress me as Presidential material. Showing a little maturity in the public eye would help.

  • I don't understand why this is even a question. Everyone has the right to have a favorite team, and I'm not aware of any requirement for fidelity to any certain team. As far as the Cowboys being "Americas Team" - I'm not a sports fan, but I've always heard the the Green Bay Packers are generally thought to be "Americas Team" and have devout fans all over the world. This is a liberal tempest in a teapot.
