White House Withdraws Neera Tanden OMB Nomination, Giving Biden His First Defeat

Late Tuesday, Director of the Office of Management and Budget nominee Neera Tanden withdrew her nomination with the White House following suit, giving President Joe Biden his first defeat.

Tanden wrote a statement addressed to Biden.

Tanden Knew She Couldn’t Win At This Point

“Dear President Biden,” Tanden began, “I am writing to you to withdraw my nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget.”

“It has been an honor of a lifetime to be considered for this role and for the faith placed in me,” she continued. “I appreciate how hard you and your team at the White House has worked to win my confirmation.”

Tanden then admitted her defeat was inevitable.

“Unfortunately, it now seems clear that there is no path forward to gain confirmation, and I do not want continued consideration of my nomination to be a distraction from your other priorities,” she wrote.

“I am incredibly grateful for your leadership on behalf of the American people and for your agenda that will make such a transformative difference in people’s lives.” she added.

Opposition to Tanden has been rising in both parties due to controversial social media comments she had made in the past.

In now deleted tweets, Tanden directed hostile comments at, among many others, socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders.

In confirmation hearings, Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana made the most memorable remarks of her comments, stating, “You called Senator Sanders everything but an ignorant slut.”

Progressive Glenn Greenwald Blasted Tanden’s Conspiracy Theories

Progressive journalist Glenn Greenwald reported in November than Tanden had been a leading conspiracy theorist on the falsehood that Russian bots fixed the election for Trump over Hillary Clinton.

From Greenwald:

Four days after the 2016 election, Tanden began strongly implying, if not outright stating, that Russian hackers changed the vote totals, and that this is why “Trump was as surprised as everyone else” by his victory. When I highlighted her conspiratorial claims, she did not deny their obvious meaning, but rationalized them by insisting that her conspiracies were not as bad as Trump’s refusal, in advance of the election, to acknowledge the legitimacy of an election that had not yet taken place:

Greenwald also claimed that Tanden seemed so unhinged that she would resort to violence over political views.

“The list of sociopathic and even monstrous acts from Tanden is too long to list comprehensively,” Greenwald wrote in late November.

“She punched one of her own employees, a reporter for CAP’s now-abolished blog ThinkProgress, after he had the temerity to ask Hillary Clinton in 2008 about her support for the Iraq War (Tanden claimed she “merely” had “pushed,” not punched, her reporter).”

When moderate West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin’s announced he would be a “no” vote against Tanden, it made her confirmation very unlikely. Not a single GOP senator has said they would vote to confirm her.

The White House confirmed Tanden’s withdrawal.

Biden said, “I have accepted Neera Tanden’s request to withdraw her name from nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget.”

“I have the utmost respect for her record of accomplishment, her experience and counsel, and I look forward to having her serve in my Administration,” the president added.

Democrats Look Dysfunctional Right Now

The Democrats currently control the White House and Congress.

But after (so far) failing to pass the left’s much desired minimum raise hike and now this failure, the Biden administration’s inability to get anything done outside of executive order is something to behold.

Neera Tanden being rejected in such spectacular fashion happened for a reason.

That Joe Biden would still want this woman in his administration after this ordeal should tell you all you need to know about his judgement.
