Representative Ilhan Omar was caught standing behind congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, giggling and fooling around as updates on American casualties in Iraq were being discussed.
The incident occurred during a House Progressive Caucus press conference regarding the situation with Iran.
In addition to laughing, Omar (D-MN) can be seen joking around with fellow progressive congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
This all took place as Jackson Lee was providing the public with a respectful and solemn update on the history of casualties in the area.
“We never solved any problems with AUMF. We left four thousand plus – maybe even forty-four hundred dead and over sixty thousand who came back injured in some form, and the war never ended,” Jackson Lee said as Omar failed to contain her laughter.
“It deals with hostilities in Iraq, it doesn’t deal with an incident or a dislike or someone in a car coming in from the airport,” Jackson Lee continued, at which time Omar doubled over giggling.

No Laughing Matter
Ironically enough, Ms. Omar shared a clip of comedian George Carlin discussing American militarism earlier this week when denouncing actions involving Iran.
She captioned the clip, “no laughing matter.”
Omar also downplayed real trauma for our men and women in the military, claiming her PTSD makes her ‘uneasy’ about what is happening with Iran.
“And I think every time I hear about … I hear of conversations around war, I find myself being stricken with PTSD,” she claimed. “And I find peace knowing that I serve with great advocates for peace and people who have shown courage against war.”
Yet, there she is laughing uncontrollably while casualties for the U.S. military are being discussed.
Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) referred to Omar’s comments as a “disgrace,” adding they are “offensive to our nation’s veterans who really do have PTSD after putting their life on the line to keep America safe.”

Omar Torched
Condemnation for Omar’s overall behavior at the House Progressive Caucus press conference was justifiably widespread.
“Like, did you forget you were behind the primary speaker on national television or do you really think this is comical?” wrote North Carolina Young Republicans Committeewoman Alissa Batts.
“What about 4,400 dead is so funny to Omar?” asked political commentator Dave Rubin.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised. Omar is, after all, the same woman who dismissed the 9/11 terrorist attacks as “some people did something.”
A woman who laughed hysterically when discussing Americans’ fears of the group Al Qaeda.
We shouldn’t be surprised, but we should most definitely still be shocked.
