President Barack Obama traded five high-level terrorist leaders for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who abandoned his post in Afghanistan. Many soldiers died trying to find him, and most of the Taliban leaders have already returned to the battle field.

Bergdahl’s father, in a bizarre press conference was embraced by Obama, who probably didn’t expect the reaction he received for “rescuing” a traitor.

Now, Sgt. Bergdahl just received major news. In addition to desertion, he will be officially charged by the army with “misbehavior before the enemy.” That is a crime that comes with a life sentence.

Since this story broke last summer, we have learned so much about Bowe. He wrote to his parents saying he opposed the Iraq War and was embarrassed to be a citizen. He was supposedly held captive, but sources say he was helping the Taliban locate American soldiers and teaching them various military techniques.

This “misbehavior” charge was used hundreds of times during World War II, but rarely used since then.

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who has been accused by the U.S. Army and soldiers who served with him of abandoning his outpost in Afghanistan back in 2009, has been charged with “misbehavior before the enemy” in addition to desertion.

Bergdahl was charged with “misbehavior before the enemy by endangering the safety of a command, unit or place” and prompting the military to launch search operations,” said the Army in a statement, adding that the charge carries a potential life sentence.[…]

Soldiers who served with Bergdahl have said that the search for the accused deserter endangered other troops and diverted resources from other units.

Bergdahl has also been accused of “desertion with intent to shirk important or hazardous duty,” a charge that carries a potential five-year sentence, noted the Army statement.

“His case now goes to an Article 32 hearing, which is similar to a grand jury and would recommend whether the case goes to a court martial,” reports USA Today.

A “convening authority” will ultimately make the decision whether to refer to a court martial.

This is a major blow to the Obama administration, at at time when Obama already looks weak on the foreign stage. For example, he was visiting Alaska last week taking “selfies” to bring attention to global warming, while Chinese ships were seen off the coast of Alaska in the Bering Sea.
