UFC Fighter Colby Covington Thanks Trump Family After His Big Win

Donald Trump Jr. and his brother Eric Trump sat ringside Saturday night to watch UFC Colby Covington get a big win over fighter Robbie Lawler.

Covington is an outspoken supporter of the president and had invited the Trump family to his match in New Jersey.

‘Fight Hard Tonight Colby’

President Trump sent out a tweet before Covington’s fight along with a retweet of the UFC star’s visit to the White House.

“Fight hard tonight Colby. You are a real Champ! #MAGA,” Trump tweeted.

‘Let’s Give It Up for the Trumps’

When Covington spoke after the unanimous decision that gave him the victory, the first thing he did was thank the Trump family for attending.

“I was truly inspired when the First Family came in the building, when they came to see me back stage,” Covington said, holding an American flag. “Let’s give it up for the Trumps. They’re in the building tonight. They’re keeping America great.”

‘Get It Done Buddy’

Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, “Getting ready for the main event with my man @ColbyCovMMA. Get it done buddy.”

Others noticed the Trumps presence. Sportswriter Ryan Gerbosi tweeted, “Donald Jr. and Eric Trump have arrived, stood and cheered for a submission win in the #UFCNewark prelims. Here are some blurry photos of that happening.”

Journalist Aaron Bronsteter observed, “Just finished my interview with Colby Covington who was then whisked away to speak on the phone with President Trump.”

Donald Trump’s involvement with mixed martial arts and UFC specifically is not new. UFC President Dana White is a fan and visited the White House this time last year in August 2018.

Bleacher Report chronicled the president’s history with the top MMA organization:

“The Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was an important venue during the early days of White’s UFC, hosting events at a time when MMA was still illegal in many states.

In 2008, Trump would step into the MMA game himself by purchasing a stake in Affliction Entertainment, a promotion which hosted the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Vitor Belfort and Andrei Arlovski.

More recently, White spoke on Trump’s behalf at the 2016 Republican National Convention.”

No doubt, many UFC fans are Trump supporters, but so are it’s performers and organizers. Covington proudly sports his red “Make America Great Again” hat everywhere he goes, and no doubt Dana White has one too.

Here’s to Colby Covington and wishing him all the luck in the future. It also never hurts to have the most powerful man in the world and his family in your corner!
