Judge Offers Historic Ruling on Trump’s Tweets

President Donald Trump is the only President that’s used Twitter as a means to speak directly to the public, and he’s racked up a following on the platform of over 50 million. Due to the immense attention Trump’s tweets receive, it’s estimated that he alone adds $2 billion to Twitter’s company value.

Thanks to Twitter’s algorithm, responses to Trump’s tweets by verified users (who have a blue checkmark next to their name) are displayed first. There are hundreds of liberal journalists on Twitter (which I call the “verified vultures”) that stalk Trump’s Twitter, waiting for the moment he tweets something out in the hopes they can be the first to post some snarky comment.

To filter out some of the progressive insanity, Trump has blocked a number of the vultures, who in-turn decided to file a lawsuit against the President for blocking them.

Yes, really.

The case was ridiculous, and as it turns out, so has been the result of the case. (RELATED: Lawsuit Filed Against Trump’s Twitter Account Dismissed).

According to USA Today:

A federal judge in New York ruled Wednesday that President Trump may not block users from following his Twitter account because the social media platform is a “public forum” protected by the First Amendment.

“Blocking of the individual plaintiffs as a result of the political views they have expressed is impermissible under the First Amendment,” Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald wrote in the decision.

“While we must recognize, and are sensitive to, the president’s personal First Amendment rights, he cannot exercise those rights in a way that infringes the corresponding First Amendment rights of those who have criticized him,” she wrote.

It’s unclear what legal repercussions (if any) there would be if Trump decides not to clear out his blocklist, and the ruling has implications for all representatives that are on Twitter. A number of conservative users are wondering if they’ll be unblocked anytime soon by the liberal representatives who’ve blocked them:

Trump reportedly has 150 verified users blocked on Twitter. Having seen many of their comments before he blocked them, I can confirm he made the right decision there.

The Justice Department has 60 days to appeal the ruling, so this pointless case probably isn’t dead just yet.
