President Donald Trump along with first lady Melania Trump spent part of their Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio, meeting with survivors of last weekend’s shooting tragedy, families of the victims and first responders.
The Trumps are also traveling to El Paso, Texas, as well.

Naturally, there were protesters present in Dayton — and there’s been plenty of criticism of the president for his words and actions.
People who are demanding far tougher gun control measures in this country came out into the streets as Trump spent time with survivors and hospital workers at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. But supporters of the president, carrying Trump flags, also were present in the streets, as a number of outlets reported.
The president and first lady spent more than an hour-and-a-half at the hospital, according to reports.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said the president told survivors at the hospital, “You had God watching. I want you to know we’re with you all the way.”

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, a Democrat, said she thinks the first responders and victims were grateful to see the president at the hospital, as CBS News reported — but she also felt it was a good idea that Trump did not go to the Oregon district.
President @realDonaldTrump graciously asked Sen Brown & Mayor Whaley to join as he and the First Lady visited victims, medical staff & first responders. It is genuinely sad to see them immediately hold such a dishonest press conference in the name of partisan politics. https://t.co/BB0lXhfBnG

But it’s never enough for the Resistance. They want him to resign. Nothing short of that will stop their vitriolic feedback loop. https://t.co/aN910CLVwS

The Oregon district was where the shooting occurred last weekend; her reasoning was that “some [people] are hurting over the president’s rhetoric.”

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said the president and first lady said the “right things” during their trip to the hospital.
But Brown, who originally was not going to meet the president during his visit, was also critical: He urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and the president to push for an assault weapons ban, as CBS also reported.
