President Trump to Visit Hurricane-Torn Texas on Tuesday

Hurricane Harvey has hit Texas, and the pictures of the flooding are heartbreaking.

The National Hurricane Center has reported that at least 50 inches of rain have fallen in some areas – and one meteorologist even estimated that 340 billion gallons of rainwater have fallen on the state. Another meteorologist estimated that the figure was between 340-370 billion.

Three Texans have died thus far, and Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster in fifty counties. President Donald Trump also signed a disaster declaration last Friday as the hurricane was making landfall, and has since held numerous meetings with cabinet officials to coordinate a response to the storm.

Early Sunday morning Trump tweeted that major rescue operations were underway – and news later broke that he’d be visiting the state on Tuesday.

President Trump will visit the state of Texas on Tuesday, the White House confirmed Sunday.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the White House is still working to coordinate logistics for the trip with state and local officials.

The president praised the government response to Hurricane Harvey, including emergency crews that have rescued “thousands,” as stormwater rises and strands residents across the state.

“Great coordination between agencies at all levels of government. Continuing rains and flash floods are being dealt with,” Trump tweeted. “Thousands rescued.”

The storm hit the state’s Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane late Friday and continues slowly to move northwest as a tropical storm, with steady rain that is flooding homes and streets

This marks the first natural disaster that the Trump Administration has faced. And if you remember how Barack Obama responded to the last one, it’s good for our country he’s no longer president. When historic flooding came to Louisiana in August of 2016, leaving 13 dead, what did Obama do?

He didn’t end his Martha’s Vineyard vacation soon enough, and didn’t visit the state until it was too late.

Thankfully, President Trump isn’t make the same mistake.
