Trump Trolls Schumer With Video of him Opposing Illegal Immigration

The American Left has gone completely haywire over the issue of immigration in the Trump era, and it has everything to do with politics and nothing to do with good policy.

How do we know this? Because for the entirety of American politics, fighting illegal immigration was a bipartisan issue. Sure, Republicans generally have proposed stricter solutions to combat the problem, but Democrats used to at least admit that illegal immigration was a problem we needed to fight in the first place.

Heck, not only were Democrats against just illegal immigration, 62% agreed that “immigrants today are a burden on our country because they take our jobs, housing, and healthcare.” That figure is only 12% today. Given that 62 percent of Democrats opposed legal immigration in the mid-90s, we can glean that an even larger share opposed illegal immigration.

Even as recently as 2006, Democrats were lining up to vote in favor of the Secure Fence Act, which authorized the construction of 700 new miles of border fence. Among those voting in favor included Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Diane Feinstein, and Chuck Schumer.

And speaking of Schumer, he’s been opposing illegal immigration up until the very moment Donald Trump started doing the same. Trump utilized that fact to troll Schumer and other Democrats on Twitter last night, using his own words against him. “People who enter the United States without our permission are illegal aliens and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who entered the U.S. legally,” Schumer is heard saying in a speech he gave at Georgetown University Law School in 2009.

“Illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple,” Schumer said.

“Until the American people are convinced that we will stop future flows of illegal immigration, we will make no progress in dealing with the millions of illegal immigrants who are here now and on rationalizing our system of legal immigration.”

Watch below:

Trump engaged in a similar kind of trolling back in June, quoting a wider array of Democrats opposition to illegal immigration. “Don’t worry, the Republicans, and your President, will fix it!” he added.

A CBS poll back in June found that three out of every four Americans support incarcerating or deporting illegal immigrants, while only 21% favor keeping/releasing them back into the country.

While opposing illegal immigration may make Democrat politicians popular with the Democrat voters who were already going to vote for them regardless, it isn’t going to draw in the other 75% of the country.
