President Trump has finally weighed in on the latest scandal engulfing his administration.
The ousting of White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter has been a black mark on the West Wing, as Porter was accused of abusing two of his ex-wives. There are now questions as to what Trump’s top staff knew before the allegations were made public. Chief of Staff John Kelly was a big advocate for Porter, and may have withheld knowledge as to the severity of the abuse.
President Trump, who didn’t know about the Porter allegations until they were in the news, finally answered a question from the media on Porter. Via Axios:
In a surprise meeting with the White House press pool Friday, President Trump commented on the latest abuse accusations from former White House aide Rob Porter. According to the press pool, when asked about Porter the president said he “will have a great career ahead of him,” and that it is a “tough time” for the former staffer. “As you probably know he says he is innocent,” Trump continued. He concluded his remarks by saying “we absolutely wish him well, he did a very good job when he was at the White House.”
Here was his response:

Welp. That’s sure to set off some alarms in the media. You can already see the President catching flak for his comments on Twitter:
—@DanaBashCNN: “The fact that he did not mention one word, one syllable about these two women … who are talking in great detail about abuse … is outrageous. I mean, I’m sorry, it just is.”

🤬DISGUSTING🤬
No surprise, Trump *defends* the abuser, not the victims.
On White Supremacists: “very fine people.”🤢
On Rob Porter: “Hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him… He says he’s innocent.”🤮
Just like Trump claims to be. NOT‼pic.twitter.com/w3ACerdN9A
