Trump Awards First Purple Heart During Visit to Walter Reed

President Donald Trump takes a very personal approach to his duties as Commander-in-Chief. We all remember when he went to honor Navy SEAL Ryan Owens, the first service member killed under his command.

Now President Trump took the opportunity during his first visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to personally award the first Purple Heart of his presidency.

The President and First Lady visited several wounded troops at the hospital on Saturday, including Army Sergeant First Class Alvaro Barrientos.

According to AOL:

Barrientos was injured in Afghanistan on March 17 when an Afghan soldier opened fire inside a base in Helmand province, wounding three U.S. soldiers. Barrientos’s right leg was amputated, according to a White House official.

The president put his hand on the sergeant’s shoulder and kissed the sergeant’s wife, Tammy, on the cheek. Trump then pinned the Purple Heart to the sergeant’s lapel and clapped him on the back.

“When I heard about this, I wanted to do it myself. … Congratulations, tremendous,” Trump told Barrientos.

A grateful nation thanks you for your sacrifice, Sgt. Barrientos!

And we are also grateful to have a president who has such a special relationship with the troops once again.
