President Trump is reportedly preparing a proclamation to declare a national emergency at the southern border, freeing up to $7 billion in potential funds to build a wall.
“The massive amount of aliens who unlawfully enter the United States each day is a direct threat to the safety and security of our nation and constitutes a national emergency,” a draft version reads.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the President “could yet declare a national emergency to pay for his border wall,” but he seems hesitant to do so. Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney believes Trump has the authority but doesn’t really want to open a Pandora’s box.
“I absolutely still believe that the national emergency is still a tool that’s available to the president,” Mulvaney told reporters. “He’s just been very candid, very public in saying it’s not his preferred course of action.”
Pelosi Rejects Another Compromise
News of the draft comes as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has again refused a compromise issued by the President. Trump offered a temporary continuing resolution in exchange for a “down payment” on his wall.
“Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Chuck Schumer are meeting now to see whether or not they can work out of the deadlock,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced. “As was made clear to Senator Lindsay Graham, the 3 week CR would only work if there is a large down payment on the wall.”
Pelosi wasted no time in rejecting the offer, saying,”That is not a reasonable agreement.”

The down-payment offer comes after the President already submitted a proposal to negotiate DACA and end the government shutdown. He has offered multiple ‘reasonable agreements.’
Pelosi and the Democrats Don’t Know How to Compromise
The only adult in the room offering compromise solutions appears to be President Trump. Despite his offers, Pelosi and the resistance party refuse to budge, knocking down claims that they’re reaching across the aisle for the betterment of the American people.
Thursday afternoon, the Senate voted on a pair of bills that would end the shutdown, with each being defeated rather easily. While several Republicans crossed the aisle to vote for the Democrat plan, only one Democrat (who voted for both), Joe Manchin, said ‘aye’ to the Republican plan that included $5.7 billion in funding for the border wall.
So who is clearly more willing to compromise here?
Federal workers facing increasingly dire economic situations have only Pelosi to blame, after she has said ‘NO’ to deal after deal, and has refused to even offer a proposal to get people back to work.
