Trump: Pelosi ‘Broke the Law’ By Ripping Up SOTU Speech

Speaking to reporters today, President Trump said it was “very illegal” for Speaker Nancy Pelosi to rip up a copy of his State of the Union speech.

“A Terrible Thing”

“I thought it was a terrible thing when she ripped up the speech,” the President said. “First of all, it’s an official document. You’re not allowed. It’s illegal what she did. She broke the law. But I haven’t been asked the question other than a lot of people that viewed it, they couldn’t believe that she did it.”

President Trump added Pelosi’s actions were “disrespectful” to Congress and the country at whole.

“I got very high marks on the speech and I didn’t know she did it until I was walking out and some of the congressmen and women were saying can you believe what she did? But I didn’t know she did it,” he added.

“I think there’s a lot of evil on that side,” the President continued. “They’ve gone crazy, they’ve gone totally crazy, it’s too bad! I’ve gotten tremendous amounts done, more than anybody’s gotten done in 3 years, by far. They’re not constructive people.”

When asked whether he would consider now working with Democrats after Pelosi’s actions, the President replied that he “works with everybody,” but they have a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome!

“They’ve got a very bad case of it. You saw that, that was on display the other night when [Pelosi] ripped up the speech,” he said. “That was terrible. It was so disrespectful to our country, and actually very illegal what she did!”

Pelosi “Must Be Held Accountable”

President Trump’s comments follow calls from various congressmen and women for Pelosi to be censured by the House or resign for her actions at the State of the Union address. Representative Matt Gaetz filed an ethics complaint against Pelosi for destroying the speech.

“Her conduct was beneath the dignity of the House, and a potential violation of law (18 USC 20710),” Gaetz tweeted. “Nobody is above the law. She must be held accountable.”

Rep. Paul Gosar introduced a motion to have Pelosi censured by the House for her “disgusting display of hatred” that was “unbecoming of her office.” Her “classlass outburst” was “a new low,” Gosard tweeted. Rep. Lee Zeldin went even further, and called for her to step down before the “American public” do it for her and vote her out. On Friday, Republican House Whip Steve Scalise told CBS News that Pelosi’s actions were “disgraceful and unbecoming of a speaker,” and that she should apologize for her actions.

With President Trump now joining these voices in her condemnation, it is a clear signal that Pelosi needs to go. Something has to be done to let the left know that it is not okay to flagrantly disrespect the House and the American people.
