On Thursday, former President Donald Trump officially endorsed NFL legend Herschel Walker in his U.S. Senate bid in Georgia.
Walker is considered to be one of the greatest running backs in the history of the University of Georgia, where he won the Heisman Trophy Award in 1982.
He has been friends with Donald Trump for years – and rumors had been going around that he was preparing for a run for the Senate. He made the run official last week.

Walker would go on to play professional football for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.
Trump said in his endorsement, “Herschel Walker is a friend, a Patriot, and an outstanding American who is going to be a GREAT United States Senator…Herschel Walker will never let you down…He has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
“He embodies ‘America First’ and the winning spirit of Georgia,” Trump said in his statement.
The statement continued, “Herschel is tough on Crime and Borders, and he will always stand in support of Law Enforcement, Military, and our Vets. He will fight hard for our Second Amendment and Voter Integrity.”
“Herschel Walker will never let you down,” Trump said. “He was a great football player and will be an even better U.S. Senator—if that is even possible.”
Walker is a longtime personal friend of Trump and remained a staunch support during his presidency.
Walker also served on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition during the Trump administration.

Walker said in a statement when he officially announced his candidacy last week, “In the United States Senate, I will stand up for conservative values and get our country moving in the right direction.”
“It is time to have leaders in Washington who will fight to protect the American Dream for everybody,” Walker added.
If he wins, Walker isn’t the first NFL star to serve in Congress.
Republican Burgess Owens of Utah won a Super Bowl with the Raiders.
Hall of Fame Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Steve Largent represented Oklahoma when he won during the Republican Revolution of 1994.
More recently, former players Anthony Gonzales, a Republican, and Colin Allred, a Democrat, were elected in 2018.
