It could still happen!
The peace summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un might still be happening on June 12th in Singapore. While the President initially canceled the summit last week citing North Korea’s questionable and provocative behavior, all the necessary preparations are still taking place. (RELATED: North Korea Summit With President Trump Canceled). It was just announced that White House officials are setting the stage for the summit regardless of Trump’s cancellation notice.

The White House believes that next month’s summit between President Trump and North Korean Kim Jong-un in Singapore is still happening. A statement from Press Secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed that the administration “continues to actively prepare” for the meeting after North Korean officials “have been engaging” after Trump’s letter last week effectively cancelling it.

The White House is smart to do this. Trump could easily change his mind about the summit. The North Korean regime expressed shock over the cancellation but has made it known that they are still willing to meet with the U.S. The government of South Korea has been working overtime to try and rescue the summit, easing the tensions between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump.
One hopeful note from the report is that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans to meet with Kim Yong-chol, who is the vice chairman of North Korea’s Central Committee, this week in New York. This meeting could set the framework for the peace summit, should Trump decide to go.
Should the meeting happen with Trump in attendance, it could be a huge step forward in terms of world peace. Trump has the chance to make history here, to do what no other president did before him. He should not let this opportunity go to waste.
