Trump: Federal Gov Will Step In If Governors Disagree With Re-Opening Plans

President Donald Trump said that the federal government will step in if they do not agree with re-opening plans put forward by state governors.

Trump: “We Will Step In If We See Something Going Wrong”

President Trump has pushed for the states to re-open themselves as soon as feasibly possible, after the lockdown from the coronavirus pandemic. The President argued that state governors that plan to keep the lockdown going until the November election are doing so on a “political basis,” and that the federal government will step in if they disagree with the plans of state governors regarding re-openings.

“The governors are making their decisions, and want to make their decisions, and that’s the way I want it to, and we will step in if we see something going wrong, or if we disagree, and some people say that’s nice, and some people say I shouldn’t be doing that, but we’re going to do it if we see something wrong,” President Trump said in a call to state governors on Monday, according to audio of the call that was obtained by CBS.

“If you have any problem, let me know please, but it seems that the governors are largely happy. And I think I can say extraordinarily happy with respect to what we’ve done,” President Trump continued.

An Eminently Sensible Policy From The President

I completely agree with the President here. In times of crisis like this, this is when the federal government should step in and keep the country more aligned on policy. There are absolutely Democrat governors who want to punish conservatives and Trump supporters, such as Governor Gretchen Witmer of Michigan, by keeping the country shut down for longer than is absolutely necessary. Of course we have to listen to the advice of scientists and epidemiologists – to do otherwise would be ignorant, but given that most Western nations are beginning to re-open themselves now, it would be insane for America to have various sectors of the country locked down when others re-open.

The President’s warning here is therefore eminently sensible, and one that I think all Americans with an ounce of common sense can back.
