Media Reports Trump Could Invoke Executive Privilege to Stop Comey Testimony

Former FBI Director James Comey is being called to testify this week in front of Congress in a public session. Many rumors have swirled around about what he was going to say, and whether or not he would bring damaging information that could sink President Trump or any member of his team.

The media has been speculating, adding accusations and allegations while Comey hasn’t given any light on what he was going to say once he sits on the hot seat.

Just late last week, more rumors hit the street that President Trump would invoke executive privilege to stop Comey from testifying. This would cause problems on every level if this were to happen. Of course, Trump has every right to do this but in the public’s eyes, it would like he was trying to hide something and needed Comey to be shut down.

Former FBI Director Comey is scheduled to testify in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, and there has been speculation that President Trump might invoke executive privilege to prevent Comey from testifying.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked Karl about this speculation.

“I’ve talked to several of the president’s top aides who say there is no plan to do that. They believe that it would be a tough case to make legally and politically, it will be a disaster,” Karl reported.

Karl concluded, “That said, George there’s no telling if the President himself will decide he wants to make that fight later on. But, right now, the opinion inside the West Wing is that Comey will testify and they will not try to stop it.”

Read that speculation again. There is no reason to believe Trump is going to use executive privilege, but the liberal media brings up the subject just to stir the pot. They even asked Trump aides, who shot the rumors down in incredible fashion. So why was this story even brought up?

Hopefully, this remains the choice of reasoning. I wouldn’t like to see the press go after Trump over this for the rest of his term, which they would undoubtedly do. Obama used executive privilege a few times during investigations into his possible wrongdoings and the media left him alone. They wouldn’t do that to Trump.
