Trump Endorses Former Navy SEAL And Wisconsin Republican Derrick Van Orden

The former President Donald Trump spoke out on Thursday to officially endorse former Navy SEAL Derrick Van Orden, the Wisconsin Republican who was preparing to face off against Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) before he announced his retirement.

Trump Endorses Van Orden

“Derrick Van Orden is running for Congress in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District. Derrick is a former Navy SEAL Senior Chief who bravely served and defended our Country,” Trump wrote.

“He strongly supports our Military, Veterans, Law Enforcement, and he will always fight for Secure Borders, the Second Amendment, and our incredible Farmers,” Trump continued. “Derrick has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Van Orden thanked Trump for this endorsement on Twitter after it came in.

“President Trump inspired millions of Americans by reminding us that this is the greatest nation on earth and worth serving. He carried the 3rd District in 2016 and by an even higher margin in 2020,” Van Orden wrote. “I am incredibly proud to receive his endorsement for my congressional run.”

Ron Kind Retires

Ron Kind announced his retirement earlier this week in a crushing blow to Democrats, who have a slim majority in the House.

“I’ve run out of gas,” Kind told reporters, according to Politico. “I had to face a serious job review every two years for 26 years.”

Van Orden responded by saying that Kind’s retirement “is indicative of what I hear every day as I travel the 3rd District: Wisconsinites want a change.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made it abundantly clear that she is not happy that Van Orden is retiring.

“When Congressman Kind retires at the end of this term, Wisconsin and America will be losing a public servant in Congress who has dedicated decades to delivering results For The People,” she said in a statement.

Kind Unhappy With Politics

Kind had indicated earlier this summer that this may have been coming when he said that he still loves “the work” but, “It’s just gotten nasty and so polarized.”

“When two-thirds of your colleagues across the aisle, hours after the insurrection, come in and vote to overturn the election result, what’s going on?” he added.
