California Wants to Provide Sanctuary to Illegals, So Trump Threatens to Defund Entire State

**UPDATE**

Despite defying President Trump’s orders regarding sanctuary cities, the state of California is now asking for $150 billion in federal infrastructure funds, something that likely won’t happen if the state continues to support illegal immigration.

Democrats in California may have cost their own state tens of billions of dollars in federal funding – all because of their insistence on harboring and protecting criminal illegal immigrants.

Democrats in the Golden State rammed through bills that would create a statewide sanctuary for illegal immigrants, pay for lawyers for illegal immigrants facing deportation, and slow any attempts by the Trump administration to create a “Muslim registry.”

Now President Trump has responded in a huge way, threatening to withhold federal funding for all of California!

Via TheBlaze:

President Donald Trump won’t rule out the possibility of defunding the entire state of California if it declares statewide sanctuary status for illegal immigrants.

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly asked Trump for his thoughts about the proposed law during an exclusive pre-Super Bowl interview Sunday.

“I think it’s ridiculous — sanctuary cities. As you know I’m very much opposed to sanctuary cities. They breed crime. There’s a lot of problems,” Trump said.

“If we have to we’ll defund. We give tremendous amounts of money to California. California in many ways is out of control. Obviously the voters agree. Otherwise they wouldn’t have voted for me,” the president added.

Trump’s plan would be emulating what Texas governor Greg Abbott has done in his own state, withholding state funds to Travis County for violating federal immigration law by harboring and sheltering illegals.

Trump’s threat to pull back federal funding to California has not gone unnoticed. Matt Cate, executive director of the California State Assn. of Counties, said officials are “legitimately concerned.”

“The dollar amounts are large enough that cutting them could cause irreparable harm to the counties and their residents,” he said. “So we’re uncertain and concerned.”

According to the Legislative Analyst’s Office, California spent $368 billion in federal funds, though a good portion of that relates to Social Security, Medicare, and other programs that can’t be touched.

However, a good $17 billion allocated for Obamacare is expected to come from the feds in the following year, something that is certainly ripe for the slashing.

Will Trump follow through on his threat?
