In the wake of a series of unsuccessful missile strikes on American bases in Iraq, President Trump has declared that Iran now “appears to be standing down.”

The President made his remarks in an address to the nation Wednesday morning.

“The American people should be extremely grateful and happy,” Trump said, noting that none of yesterday evening’s attacks resulted in casualties.

“Iran appears to be standing down, which is a good thing for all parties concerned and a very good thing for the world,” he rightly stated.

No thanks to Barack Obama.

Blames Obama For Helping to Fund Iran’s Attack

The President also blasted his predecessor, Barack Obama, for providing cash to Iran, allowing them to finance the missiles that were launched at American troops.

“The missiles fired last night at us and our allies were paid for with the funds made available by the last administration,” Trump asserted.

Trump was referencing $150 billion in assets that were held in overseas accounts and sent back to Iran, a process put into motion by Obama’s failed nuclear deal in 2015.

The former President also famously gave nearly $2 billion to Iran as leverage to ensure three American prisoners were released, money which, according to CNN at the time, “was flown into Iran on wooden pallets.”

Today, Trump promised Americans that Iran would never be given the capability to create a nuclear weapon while he is in office.

“As long as I am President of the United States, Iran will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.

Trump Has Proven He Can Handle the Iran Situation Better Than Any Democrat Candidate

Political scientist Ian Bremmer, while quantifying his comments by explaining he is no big fan of President Trump said it is “impossible not to call [the] Iran outcome a win for [the] president and a big opportunity going forward.”

Bremmer added that “Iran is weaker today than it was when Trump became president.”

Trump’s tactics lie in stark contrast to those of Obama and serve as a reminder that any of the top Democrats running against him in 2020 would set American foreign policy back significantly.

Elizabeth Warren has struggled to call General Qassem Soleimani, a man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans, and whose death escalated tensions with Iran, a terrorist.

Bernie Sanders has been calling Soleimani’s elimination an “assassination” while downplaying his responsibility in the killing of Americans.

And Joe Biden, Obama’s former right-hand man? Well, he can’t even keep Iraq and Iran straight …

Steve Guest, Rapid Response Director for the RNC, said that while Democrats are tripping over themselves trying to side with Iran and pushing the impeachment debacle, “President Trump is showing the world how to successfully navigate a complex foreign policy situation.”
