Trump Blasts Liz Cheney’s Support For ‘Endless Wars’ After Some Republicans Call For Removing Her From Conference Chair

On Thursday, President Donald Trump harshly criticized Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who serves as the highest ranking female Republican in the House.

The President’s critical tweet comes in the wake of Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and other Trump allies calling for Cheney’s ouster from GOP leadership during a closed-door conference meeting two days ago.

“Liz Cheney is only upset because I have been actively getting our great and beautiful Country out of the ridiculous and costly Endless Wars,” Trump tweeted. “I am also making our so-called allies pay tens of billions of dollars in delinquent military costs. They must, at least, treat us fairly!!!”

President Trump retweets Rand Paul’s criticism of Liz Cheney and her support for ‘endless wars’

Trump also retweeted Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul’s earlier post calling for Cheney to step down from her chair.

“We should all join @realDonaldTrump in advocating to stop our endless wars,” Paul tweeted. “Liz Cheney not only wants to stay forever, she’s leading the fight to try to stop him from leaving. Unacceptable.”

Cheney shrugs off attacks

Earlier this month, Congresswoman Cheney joined House Democrats to block Trump from withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Germany.

Cheney seemed to shrug off attacks from other Republicans when she spoke to Fox News.

“On our side of the aisle, it’s a healthy thing for us to have those kinds of debates and discussions,” Cheney said.

Neoconservative Cheney admits she and Trump disagree on foreign policy

“I’m sure we’ll have more as things go along, but the fundamental point here is that we’re unified in making sure that President Trump is reelected in November, that Nancy Pelosi is no longer speaker, that we take back the majority in the House and that we ensure that we hold the majority in the Senate,” she added.

As for Trump’s tweet directed at her on Thursday morning, Cheney also addressed that issue.

“It’s no secret the president and I disagree on some foreign policy issues,” she told Politico, adding that her top priority is to “provide for the defense of the nation.”

Mrs. Cheney, like her father, former vice president Dick Cheney, belong to what many call the “neoconservative” faction of the Republican Party. Often called “neocon” for short, this group has long been defined by support for prolonged war as exemplified their continued support for the U.S. staying in Afghanistan indefinitely.

Most neoconservatives also defend the Iraq War, which President Trump has called one of the greatest mistakes in American foreign policy history.

Fellow neoconservative and disgraced former Trump adviser, John Bolton, defended Cheney after the attacks by Republicans this week.

“I know @Liz_Cheney as a principled leader who puts her country first,” Bolton tweeted. “In the coming months, we are going to need lots of leaders to step up, speak their minds, & stand for their beliefs.
