New Book Has Good News for Trump in 2020

President Donald Trump tweeted out a personal book recommendation this morning. “‘The Great Revolt’ by Salena Zito and Brad Todd does much to tell the story of our great Election victory. The Forgotten Men & Women ‘are forgotten no longer!”

The book had been in the news prior to Trump’s recommendation because of a prediction made within it about The Donald.

The book examines Rust Belt voters who voted twice for Barack Obama, but then voted Republican for Trump. While there’s been no shortage of partisan pundits claiming that “racism” is what motivated Trump voters, this book takes an honest look at how Trump attracted many working-class Democrat voters.

One of the book’s authors, Salena Zito, said of their book “Far from a fluke, the 2016 election was a product of the tectonic plate-grinding of our society — a backlash against globalism, secularism, and coastal elitism. An August 2017 survey of 2,000 self-reporting Trump voters in the Rust Belt, commissioned by me and my co-author, revealed their motivations, priorities and decision making, and reinforced what we had found in our interviews.”

In the book, Zito and Todd describe a number of archetypes of the new Trump voter, and based off of how Trump appeals to those individuals, Zito and Todd argue there’s a “better than 50 percent chance Trump is reelected.” Ironically, Zito and Todd predict that Democrats will only worsen their chances by running a far-left candidate in 2020 when they’d be better off with a Red State Democrat like Montana Governor Steve Bullock.

Their predictions are currently at odds with the bookies – as the gambling odds (on the website PredictIt) are predicting a 57% chance a Democrat will win the presidency in 2020, with Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders being the most likely candidates. Of course, those figures should be taken with a grain of salt, as less than $100,000 is being wagered overall.
