Former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy threw cold water on the idea that Russia may be trying to help President Trump in 2020, suggesting they’d prefer “Comrade Sanders” instead.
House lawmakers, according to the New York Times, were warned last week that Russia was once again trying to meddle in the election as a means “to try to get President Trump re-elected.”
In an interview with ‘The Story’ on Fox News, host Ed Henry asked Gowdy what he made of the reports, and the former congressman immediately dismissed them.
“Three things,” Gowdy began. “Number one, I don’t know anyone who really thinks that Russia prefers Donald Trump to win over Comrade Sanders, I don’t know a soul that really thinks Russia wants Donald Trump to be the president instead of the guy that honeymooned in Russia.”
Gowdy is, of course, correct. Why would Russia lean toward helping President Trump as opposed to the man who spent his honeymoon just outside of Moscow for crying out loud?
At the time of Sanders’ honeymoon, according to columnist George Will in 2015, “gulags still functioned” and political prisoners were still “being tortured in psychiatric ‘hospitals.’”
Wouldn’t they rather have a guy that can turn a blind eye to that kind of thing and fully supports communism in America?
Gowdy went on to say these reports were coming from some notably unreliable sources.
“Is this the same intelligence community that told us it was a spontaneous reaction to a video in Libya and the same intelligence community that promised us weapons of mass destruction and the same intelligence community that relied on the dossier?” Gowdy quipped.
“I have respect for them but they aren’t polygraph machines.”
Trey Gowdy proceeded to suggest the source for the New York Times report may have been the perpetually lying and leaking House Intelligence Committee chairman, Adam Schiff.
“They (The Times) gather information and make assessments and they give them, unfortunately, they give them to people like Adam Schiff who leak like sieves,” Gowdy asserted.
“This never should have been made public and that’s why the president is upset,” he added. “Not at what the intelligence community found, but the fact that Adam Schiff has a beeline to the New York Times when it is negative information about Donald Trump.”
Gowdy has been beating the drum that Schiff is constantly leaking information to the press for some time.
“When you put someone who is wrong as often as Adam Schiff is wrong and is as deeply partisan as he is, in charge of the intelligence committee, then no, you’re not going to share confidential information because Adam leaks like a sieve,” he said in September of last year.
Previously, Gowdy has shredded Schiff as “an overtly ambitious partisan wannabe senator” and joined Fox News host Tucker Carlson in a laugh at the California Democrat for being “an irresponsible buffoon,” a claim that has yet to be disproven.
When is Schiff going to be forced to resign his position? His partisan buffoonery is a danger to this nation.
