Trey Gowdy Levels ‘Wannabe Senator’ Adam Schiff For Opposing Probe Into Obama-Era Spying

Former Republican congressman Trey Gowdy leveled Rep. Adam Schiff over his opposition to the Attorney General’s investigation of politically motivated spying on President Trump’s campaign.

Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chair, objected to Bill Barr’s probe and declassification of documents related to it, accusing Trump and the AG of being “un-American.”

The President authorized Barr to “declassify, downgrade, or direct the declassification or downgrading of information or intelligence” regarding the origin of the surveillance of his campaign.

“Trump and Barr conspire to weaponize law enforcement and classified information against their political enemies,” Schiff protested. “The coverup has entered a new and dangerous phase. This is un-American.”

Gowdy had a few choice words for Schiff.

Schiff Skewered

Gowdy, in an interview on ‘Fox & Friends,’ dismissed Schiff’s posturing as the actions of a partisan hack.

“Here’s the thing, Schiff is an overtly ambitious partisan wannabe senator from California,” he mocked. “So your expectations should be exceedingly low for Adam Schiff.”

Gowdy pivoted to critiquing the media alongside Schiff, reminding viewers that both were completely fine with leaks of classified information when Trump was the target, but are suddenly verklempt over the idea that material reflecting poorly on the Obama administration might be released.

“What I find amusing is the duplicity with which the D.C. media covers these events,” mused Gowdy. “Remember 2016 and 2017, the front page of almost every major newspaper was some leak of classified information.”

“They didn’t care about that,” he explained. “Now they’re concerned that Bill Barr as he looks into the origins of this investigation may disseminate classified information.”

Irresponsible Buffoon

Gowdy has frequently blasted Schiff for being “consistently wrong when it comes to issues of disclosure.”

Nowhere is this more evident than in Schiff’s previous comments about declassifying information pertaining to Russian meddling in our elections.

“President Obama can and must declassify as much as possible about Russia hacking our elections,” Schiff announced in the winter of 2016. “Rest assured, Trump won’t.”

Now that the President is actually taking action, Schiff is acting like, well … ‘an overtly ambitious partisan wannabe senator.’

In an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Gowdy asserted that Schiff was, to put it mildly, difficult to work with.

“He’s an irresponsible buffoon,” Carlson said.

“Try working with him,” Gowdy quipped.
