Trey Gowdy and Devin Nunes, the two Republican House lawmakers most engaged in leading the congressional investigation into the Department of Justice’s actions during the 2016 campaign, are sending a warning to the nation’s top law enforcement body.
Rep. Gowdy, who is the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told Fox News that the DOJ and congressional Democrats are harassing investigative staffers. Rep. Nunes, who is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, echoed Gowdy’s claim.
Fox News has the report:
“I would have a lot more respect for DOJ or House committee Democrats if they would take out their frustrations on members of Congress, and leave staffers alone,” South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told Fox News on Monday. “The members make the final decision and are responsible for them, not staffers.”
“Attacking staffers, planting false stories, and endangering national security by leaking sensitive information to the press, including information about intelligence sources — this is what the DOJ is doing, and this why trust in the DOJ is rapidly eroding in Congress,” said California Rep. Devin Nunes, the GOP chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
If this is true, and the Department of Justice is indeed not only interfering with a congressional investigation but is harassing staffers assigned to dig up information, then this is grounds for disciplinary action to be taken.
For the executive branch to interfere with an investigation initiated by Congress would be a huge violation of the separation of powers. The Department of Justice was created by Congress. It is a creature of the executive – it is not independent of lawmakers. Therefore, it must abide by any congressional investigation.
Gowdy has made no secret of his disdain for the lollygagging DOJ and the ongoing stonewalling of the congressional investigation into the Department’s actions during the 2016 election. And now’s he stumbled upon another roadblock to get to the bottom of what exactly went down during the 2016 election.

Politicizing the gov agencies and then using them to attack private citizens is treason, dereliction and complicity to commit subversion....Lot's of evidence now and more on the way and suspect soon some squealing rats looking for a way off the sinking DNCommunist junk........big government is abusive, expensive, wasteful and a small gov can be better managed to be of real service......
I will hate to see Gowdy retire from the House, but I do understand that he has been worked to death in the last 3 yrs. I do understand his reasoning for wanting to go home, I figure he has worked a lot of the week-ends that the rest have gone home. He will be greatly missed.
Sessions needs to retire, drop dead, or both. Makes me wonder if he's been paid off by Soros. What does he do, anyway? Sure as hell isn't doing his job. DOJ is now the DOI; Department Of Injustice.
Jeff Sessions has proven by his inaction, that the DOJ under his direction, is out of control. He's had ample time to clean house and what has he done? Nothing. It's way past time for him to adios!
DOJ, listen up for just a moment. Congress controls your money!!! Do you really want to continue stonewalling, targeting, spreading lies? Remember, you are telling your boss to shove it where the sun don't shine. You should be jumping through your own azz trying to comply!!! Never forget that you do not have control of the money you are given to operate. You should listen to not only congress but "We the People" as well. We are not stupid, we are not all forgiving, we are not an unlimited money pit for you to steal from. Get back to doing your jobs!!! Maybe your pay should be determined by vote instead of congressional budgeting. You are not helping this great nation, you are doing your best to destroy it. WE ARE WATCHING AND WE ARE WAITING.
We deeply lament Mr. Gowdy's upcoming retirement. I hope he seeks higher office. Otherwise, it will be a severe loss to the Republic.
Nunes & Gowdy both, are great patriots and Lawmakers!
Jeff Sessions has proved that the AG job is too big for him. It just doesn't smell right that President Trump hasn't fired him by now. I know the timing might be bad for the President, but it just has to be done. The alternative explanation is that Sessions knows where the bodies are buried, as we used to say, and the President is afraid he is in jeopardy.
Jeff Sessions either works for someone more powerful (Clinton/Obama syndicate) or someone who is blackmailing him, or quite possibly both. But, it's far worse, far bigger than just Sessions.
Hasta luego, sessions!
Something is very strange - We keep hearing about DOJ attempts to impede investigations by Congress controlled by the GOP, but DOJ is under the Executive branch, aka the GOP POTUS, who appointed Jeff Sessions AG to head the DOJ, so why wouldn't DOJ cooperate with Congress?
