House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) has a serious message for the Department of Justice and FBI: If they do not comply with subpoenas, they will be hit with “the full panoply of constitutional weapons” to get the documents they are demanding to see relating to FISA court abuse, which leads to the Russia probe, along with the hiding of incriminating Strzok-Page texts.
Gowdy issued the warning on “Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace,” where he explained that House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-W) lead a meeting with the DOJ and FBI officials Friday evening, where it was “made very clear there’s going to be action on the floor of the House this week if the FBI and DOJ do not comply with our subpoena request.” FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were among those in attendance.
As Gowdy angrily exclaimed, “I don’t want the drama, I want the documents. And I think that Chris and Rod got that message. Contempt of Congress just means we’re going to be talking about this six years from now. I don’t want that. I want the documents. I don’t want the drama, and I don’t want the floor fight.”
Gowdy noted that Ryan is taking this matter very seriously too: “But they need to know that we’re willing to do it and unless they were in a different meeting than the one — I have never seen Paul Ryan as animated as I saw him Friday night. Gowdy noted that it was made clear to DOJ and FBI leaders that they can either be part of the cleanup crew or the coverup crew. Gowdy opined, “I would encourage them to be part of the cleanup crew.”
Gowdy is co-chairing a hearing on the Inspector General’s report tomorrow, and he has many questions: “Number one, you know, the Hillary Clinton failure to prosecute was predicated upon two things. Number one, that her emails were not exposed to foreign actors. There’s some evidence that that’s not true.”
Gowdy also wants to know why Strzok went into the interview with Clinton knowing she wouldn’t be charged, then proceeded to not ask any questions about intent. The bias is extraordinary, and Gowdy is convinced the political bias of those in the FBI impacted the outcome of the investigation.
It would be hard to imagine a Republican receiving this type of treatment. Clinton put America’s national security secrets on a private email server for foreign hackers to access and has yet to be charged in any criminal investigation.
