Top Democrat Leaders Reportedly Prepping Plan To Stop Bernie Sanders At Convention
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this week that she would be “comfortable” with Bernie Sanders (I-VT) as her party’s presidential nominee, but a bombshell new report from The New York Times is directly contradicting this, stating that top Democratic leaders are preparing to launch a plan to take him down at the nominating convention this summer.
After interviewing dozens of party leaders and 93 super-delegates, The Times found that many of them are secretly planning to stop Sanders at the convention, even if it will hurt the party’s chances of beating Trump in November. The Times reported:
“This article is based on interviews with the 93 superdelegates, out of 771 total, as well as party strategists and aides to senior Democrats about the thinking of party leaders. A vast majority of those superdelegates — whose ranks include federal elected officials, former presidents and vice presidents and D.N.C. members — predicted that no candidate would clinch the nomination during the primaries, and that there would be a brokered convention fight in July to choose a nominee.”
“We’re way, way, way past the day where party leaders can determine an outcome here, but I think there’s a vibrant conversation about whether there is anything that can be done,” Connecticut Congressman and super-delegate Jim Himes told The Times.
The Times also claimed that just nine of the 93 super-delegates said that Sanders should become the Democratic nominee, should he get to the convention with a plurality of delegates.
“I’ve had 60 years experience with Democratic delegates — I don’t think they will do anything like that,” explained super-delegate and former Vice President Walter Mondale. “They will each do what they want to do, and somehow they will work it out. God knows how.”
This comes as Sanders has become the front-runner of the Democratic presidential race, much to the dismay of members of the Democratic establishment. Congressman Steve Israel (D-NY) said that four top donors had contacted him asking if he knew of anyone who could help them build a super PAC whose goal would be to take Sanders down. He claims to have told them that he did not know of anyone.
“People are worried,” said former Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, who has endorsed Joe Biden in the race: “How you can spend four or five months hoping you don’t have to put a bumper sticker from that guy on your car?”
Democrats have gone into such a state of panic that many want former President Barack Obama to intervene and force the moderate Democrats to come to a truce of some sort. One even wants former First Lady Michelle Obama to become the eventual nominee’s vice president as a way of unifying the party again.
“She’s the only person I can think of who can unify the party and help us win,” said Democrat William Owen of Tennessee. “This election is about saving the American experiment as a republic. It’s also about saving the world. This is not an ordinary election.”
Democrats have made their bed, and now they are going to have to lay in it. They’re the ones who opened their party to crazed socialist leftists like Sanders, and this is what happens when you let those kinds of people in the door.
Democrats have good reason to panic given the fact that nobody in the middle is ever going to vote for Sanders. If he does indeed become the nominee, Donald Trump will likely have no problem winning in November, so leftists should probably start preparing themselves now for four more years of this president in the White House.
