Tommy Tuberville Hints He May Challenge Electoral College Results In The Senate

Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville of Alabama suggested he may challenge the results of the Electoral College in the Senate on January 6th.

Tuberville is the first Senator to signal his willingness to challenge, while Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama has pledged to carry that mantle in the House of Representatives.

Tuberville: What Happened In The Presidential Election Was “Impossible”

During a campaign stump in Georgia, Senator-elect Tuberville said that Republican voters had “no choice” but to win the run-offs.

“They’re going to try and steal it. They’re going to try to buy it. They’re going to do everything they can to lie, cheat, and steal to win this election, like they did in the presidential election,” Tuberville told the crowd.

He said that what happened in the presidential election was “impossible,” but that “we’re going to get that all corrected. I’m gonna tell you, don’t give up on [President Trump].”

Tuberville was asked after the event by a voter if he was going to “fight to make the election right,” to which Tuberville replied that they would “fight hard.”

The female questioner specifically mentioned January 6th, when the Electoral College votes are counted in a joint session of Congress. “[Representative-elect] Madison Cawthorn said you had tricks up your sleeve,” she asked Tuberville.

“Just wait. You’ll see what’s coming. You’ve been reading about it in the House. We’re going to have to do it in the Senate,” the Senator-elect replied.

Tuberville To Join Mo Brooks In His Challenge?

Tuberville was referring to an effort, championed by Representative Mo Brooks in the House, to challenge the Electoral College votes.

“I find it unfathomable that anyone would acquiesce to election theft and voter fraud because they lack the courage to take a difficult vote on the House or Senate floor,” Brooks told Politico in an interview.

“Last time I checked, that’s why we were elected to Congress.”

18 Republican Representatives, including Reps. Paul Gosar, Louie Gohmert, Andy Biggs, and Jim Banks, have joined Brooks in calling for immediate Congressional hearings on election integrity – they will likely join his challenge of the Electoral College results if the hearings do not take place.

26 Republican Representatives-elect also signed a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi asking the she “promptly investigate” the election irregularities.

“Americans should be able to have faith that our elections are free and fair,” said Representative-elect Jerry Carl.

Republican Leadership Shuts The Challenge Down

However, Republican leadership has said that a challenge to the Electoral College votes would be unthinkable.

Senator Mitch McConnell has already congratulated Joe Biden for winning the election.

And reportedly, during a call between Senators, McConnell and other establishment Republican leaders reportedly “pleaded” with their colleagues not to object to any Biden electors.

The Senate Majority Leader said that the result of a vote challenge would be “terrible” for the GOP, as they would “have to vote it down,” which would make them appear to oppose the President.

Litigation challenging the results of the presidential election remains ongoing in several states.

National media outlets and fact-checkers insist there was no voter fraud during the election and that President Trump has lost his bid for re-election.
