The Collusion Delusion: Look Who Said What (and Should Be Ashamed)

On cable, in print, on network TV and on social media, these folks spent two years or more pre-judging President Donald Trump

By PoliZette Staff | March 26, 2019

CNN anchor Don Lemon, never a Trump supporter (to put it mildly), at one time said on the air, “The walls are closing in.”

John Oliver, host of “Last Week Tonight” on HBO, called the charges of collusion against President Donald Trump “a scandal with all of the potential ramifications of Watergate.”

Ana Navarro, a CNN contributor, declared, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and it’s beginning to look a lot like collusion.”

Paul Krugman, columnist at The New York Times, pronounced, “There’s really no question about Trump/Putin collusion.”

Disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti said to Donald Trump Jr., “They don’t have silver spoons or gold toilets in the joint.”

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel announced, “Trump appears to be on a collusion course with the law.”

Actress Alyssa Milano (shown above right) spoke of “holding the Trump administration accountable for collusion with Russia.”

Comedian Kathy Griffin, not exactly known for elegant speech, said, “Shut the f*** up and prepare for prison.”

And actor-director Rob Reiner (above left), dug in his heels on this topic just two days ago: “The fight for our democracy is about to intensify,” he tweeted. “The GOP cult is lining up behind a criminal autocrat. We keep fighting the lies and corruption battles, but the war of saving 242 years of self rule will be won by destroying him overwhelmingly at the ballot box. FIGHT!”

These and more are part of the vast wasteland of quotes, statements, pronouncements and more from many on the Left (or the center or wherever) that don’t look good for those who have spent the better part of two years or more wearing their anti-Trump hearts on their sleeves.

President Trump’s “fake news” moniker today seems more apt than ever.

Attorney General Bill Barr on Sunday issued a summary of Robert Mueller’s nearly two-year special counsel investigation.

It found no evidence, after countless hours of work, of any collusion between President Trump or his associates and the Russian government during the 2016 election season.

Trump tweeted hundreds of times that he did not collude with Russians amid the almost constant allegations from the mainstream media and more over the past two years — so the results indeed amounted to vindication.

Although Mueller said his report did not “exonerate” Trump on obstruction, Barr wrote that the “report does not recommend any further indictments, nor did the special counsel obtain any sealed indictments that have yet to be made public.”

Tuesday’s New York Post has a very clever piece by op-ed editor Sohrab Ahmari about the Mueller fallout called “Bracketeers All Deserve to Be Dunked,” in which — in classic March Madness style — it pits cable news talking heads, print journalists, network figures and the Twitterati against each other for most outrageous commentary about the Trump-Russia collusion theory.

All of these anti-Trumpers’ quotes and comments are laid bare about Trump’s presumed guilt.

“The president’s haters no doubt wish to move on to the next anti-Trump theory. But not so fast,” he writes. “We want to laurel the punditry ‘champion’ — the one who peddled the most nonsensical nonsense, the wildest inanities, the weirdest theories and unsubstantiated stories.”

“Contenders” are grouped by type of media — and there are a lot of sore losers here.

Joe Scarborough of “Morning Joe” said at one point, “The noose is tightening.”

Stephen Colbert of “The Late Show” said, “‘No collusion’ is ‘Trump’s aloha.’ It means both ‘hello’ and ‘I’m guilty.’ Aloha!”

And Chris Hayes of MSNBC said, “A cornered president storms out, as the Mueller probe closes in.”
