A pair of busses carrying dozens of illegal immigrants from Texas arrived in Chicago Wednesday night, with Governor Greg Abbott saying he looks forward to the blue city’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot greeting them with open arms in her ‘sanctuary city.’
Fox News reports that the busses carrying up to 80 people – including 20 to 30 children – began arriving at Chicago’s Union Station around 7:30 p.m.
“To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location,” Abbott said in a statement.
“Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”
The Republican governor’s office is now listing Chicago as a “drop-off location” for future busses as a result of “President Biden’s open border policies overwhelming border communities in Texas.”
To Governor Greg Abbott’s point, Lori Lightfoot has consistently bragged about Chicago being a so-called ‘sanctuary city.’
“We are a city that is a sanctuary city. We have immigrants from all over the world who call Chicago their home,” she has previously said.
“They’ll continue to do that, and we’re going to continue to make sure that this is truly a welcoming community for those immigrants and we want them to come to the city of Chicago.”
About a year later she said: “We will never, ever, ever, retreat from the fact that we are a welcoming sanctuary city, and we stand with our immigrant and refugee communities.”
Lightfoot’s office issued a statement calling Abbott’s busing of illegal immigrants to Chicago “racist” and “without shame.”
“Unfortunately, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is without any shame or humanity,” a spokesperson said. “But ever since he put these racist practices of expulsion in place, we have been working with our community partners to ready the city to receive these individuals.”
Sending illegal immigrants to cities that claim to support them and have better resources and capacity to deal with them than border states, you see, is racist.
Lightfoot’s comments are in line with other Democrat mayors suddenly outraged by illegal immigrants pouring into their city after crossing the southern border.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has called the Texas governor’s actions “horrific.”
Adams, though, was more concerned with the fact that those aboard the bus weren’t dropped off at their destination of choice.
“This is horrific when you think about what the governor is doing,” he said. “We’re finding that some of the families are on the bus that wanted to go to other locations, and they were not allowed to do so.”
My gosh, did they also have to ride in *GASP* coach and not on a first-class luxury vehicle?
Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser complained that illegal immigrants were being “tricked” into traveling farther away from their intended destinations.
She actually called for “a coordinated federal response” and twice begged the Pentagon for help in dealing with the illegal immigrants by requesting National Guard troops aid in handling the “humanitarian crisis.”
It’s only a humanitarian crisis when it’s their cities apparently.
Abbott was incensed after a video surfaced recently showing border agents opening a gate at the southern border and allowing dozens of illegal immigrants into the country after Texas National Guard officers had locked it shut.
Last week, another two busses dropped off roughly 96 illegal immigrants in New York City where officials have decided to put them in hotels to provide them temporary housing.
Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.
