When it comes to enforcing President Donald Trump’s anti-illegal alien agenda, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is not messing around.
He just made it clear to Travis County that harboring illegals will not be tolerated in the Lone Star State, and just announced he is cutting off all state funding to the county. Then, he added that he’s not done with Travis County, as “stiffer penalties (are) coming soon.”
This is extraordinary!
Today I cut funding to Travis County because of its Sanctuary City policy. Stiffer penalties coming soon. #txlege https://t.co/mQZ9Suf62e

The Travis County sheriff’s new immigration policy goes into effect today. The policy limits what information local law enforcement share with the federal immigration agency, and it’s already stirred up a lot of controversy.
This morning, Gov. Greg Abbott came through on a pledge to cancel $1.5 million in criminal justice grants from his office to Travis County over the policy.
So, what is this new policy from Sheriff Sally Hernandez, anyway?
She has directed deputies and staff of the Travis County Sheriff’s Department to not honor most warrantless requests from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to extend the detention of people booked into the local jail. If there’s no warrant, the sheriff’s policy agrees to detain only those charged with murder, aggravated sexual assault or human smuggling.
Reportedly, the additional penalties could come in the form of SB4, an anti-sanctuary city law that would further cut state funding, sponsored by Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock):
“I am excited that Governor Abbott stood up for the rule of law by declaring the banning of Sanctuary Cities an emergency item during his State of the State Address,” Sen. Perry said in a written statement obtained by Breitbart Texas. “Texans everywhere expect their elected officials to uphold the rule of law. We cannot allow local officials to implement dangerous policies that make it easier for individuals who commit serious crimes to be placed back into our communities.”
The reactions on Twitter were priceless:
.@GovAbbott‘s office confirms it has canceled its criminal justice grants to Travis County, making good on threat in “sanctuary” standoff.

Travis County, a cesspool of weak liberals, will finally feel the pressure of aiding & abetting criminals by having Abbott cut funding. #USA

Thank you Governor Abbott! Cleaning up the mess caused by 8 years of Obama is a massive challenge, and America needs leaders like Abbott to enforce immigration laws and keep America safe.
