Ted Cruz Says Bernie Sanders And AOC Need To Set Sail On A Raft To ‘Socialist Paradise’ Cuba

On Sunday, Sen. Ted Cruz blasted socialism and said that American socialists in the Democratic Party like Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez need to set sail to Cuba on a raft and see communism up close.

Cruz made his comments during a speech at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit in Tampa, Florida.

Cruz Invites American Socialists To Go To Cuba

Cruz made the point that no one flees America for a communist country. It is always the other way around.

“The thing that liberals never seem to understand if you go down to Key West is the rafts are only going in one direction,” Cruz said, who is Cuban-American.

The Republican continued, “Just once I want to see some left-wing socialist — I want to see Bernie Sanders, I want to see Elizabeth Warren, I want to see AOC go down to Key West, get on a raft, and sail 90 miles south to the socialist paradise.”

Cruz blasted all three Democrats. “Their ideas don’t work, tyranny doesn’t work, freedom is powerful and that’s what y’all are defending and I am proud to stand with you,” Cruz said.

Bernie Sanders Spent His 1988 Honeymoon In The Soviet Union

Interestingly, Sen. Sanders has visited a communist country: He spent his honeymoon in 1988 in the Soviet Union.

Yes, really.

Politico reported in 2019 on videos of the excursion that came to light.

“It’s 1988 and newlywed Bernie Sanders is in the Soviet Union with his wife, Jane, handing out gifts to the mayor of a midsized city they’ve befriended,” Politico reported.

The outlet continued, “The mood is festive as the two bestow the items: A Beatles album, a red ‘Bernie for Burlington’ button, ‘delicious Vermont candy’ and a tape of tunes Sanders recorded himself with fellow artists from Vermont, among other goodies.”

“The hours of footage include a scene of Sanders sitting with his delegation at a table under a portrait of Vladimir Lenin,” Politico noted.

The report continued, “Sanders can also be heard extolling the virtues of Soviet life and culture, even as he acknowledges some of their shortcomings.”

Politico observed, “At the time, Sanders was 46 and nearing the end of his eight years as Burlington mayor, which tracked precisely with Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Two years later, Sanders would be elected to Congress.”

Cruz’s speech came as Cuba’s communist government continues to try to tamp down on protests by citizens against the authoritarian regime.
