Surgeon General: ‘Need To Be More Intelligent’ About Closures, Banning Outdoor Gatherings Just Forces People Inside

Jerome Adams

President Trump’s Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams, said Monday that “we need to be more intelligent, more strategic about some of these closures,” arguing that they could do more harm than good in some instances.

Adams said open schools were safe, and so they should remain open.

He also noted that “if you close down people’s ability to congregate in an outdoor area, they’re just going to run inside and the virus will spread.”

Surgeon General Adams On Need To Be More Strategic

Surgeon General Adams made his comments during Monday’s broadcast of Fox News’ “The Story.”

Adams said, “We know that it is safe to keep schools open in general, when you take precautions.”

“We know that outside is better than inside, and that if you close down people’s ability to congregate in an outdoor area, they’re just going to run inside and the virus will spread, the Surgeon General noted.

In addition to noting that people huddled indoors could be a serious problem, Adams said we need to be smarter overall about mandates and closures.

We need to be less emotional and reflexive and more thoughtful about how to tackle this virus.

“So, I think we need to be more intelligent, more strategic about some of these closures, and we’re going to try to give states and health departments better advice,” he said.

More intelligence indeed.

Does it make sense to ban going to church while allowing thousands of people to protest where no one is socially distancing?

Why can Nancy Pelosi get her hair done in California – with no mask – but restaurants have to risk going out of business due to closure mandates?

Early in the pandemic, White House COVID-19 task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci, along with the CDC, advised against wearing masks because they said we would be touching our faces too much.

Soon after, they demanded mandatory masks. Given how other nations have used masks for decades, facing similar health dangers, wasn’t the early no mask advisement lacking intelligence and common sense?

Adams: ‘You’ve Still Got To Use Common Sense’

The Surgeon General urged Americans to use more common sense in how they navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

“But to the people out there, I would say, you still have to comply, you’ve still got to use common sense,” he said.

“If you have 20 people outside of your household gathering together outside, that’s still going to be higher risk than if you’re with people just within your household,” Adams emphasized.
