Supreme Court: 40-Foot World War I Memorial Cross Stays

A 40-foot World War I Memorial known as the Peace Cross can remain on public property according to a ruling by the Supreme Court Thursday.

The ruling is a big blow to the cult of atheism and a victory for both Christians and the American history this cross represents.

The Peace Cross, located in Bladensburg, Maryland, features a plaque at its base naming 49 local residents who died during World War I. Erected 100 years ago in 1919 and completed in 1925, the base also displays the words “valor,” “endurance,” “courage,” and “devotion.”

This, in the eyes of three residents, was offensive, so they joined a group representing atheists and agnostics in a lawsuit to have it removed.

One of the offended, according to Fox 5, said he did not know the cross was a war memorial and assumed its existence “implied that the city favored Christians over others.”

Victory!

The case went to the Supreme Court where the majority ruled in favor of the cross.

Justice Samuel Alito, who penned most of the majority opinion, wrote that “there is no evidence of discriminatory intent in the selection of the design of the memorial or the decision of a Maryland commission to maintain it.”

“The Religion Clauses of the Constitution aim to foster a society in which people of all beliefs can live together harmoniously,” Alito added, “and the presence of the Bladensburg Cross on the land where it has stood for so many years is fully consistent with that aim.”

Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor were the only two to dissent on this opinion, with the former declaring that the cross was unconstitutional.

“Using the cross as a war memorial does not transform it into a secular symbol,” Ginsburg argued.

Miserable Atheists

Atheists are constantly trying to remove symbols of God and faith at every turn. They feign outrage, but their obsession with eradicating faith, a major part of the founding of this country, is in itself a religion.

Last August, a group of 29 atheists, children of atheists, and atheist groups filed a lawsuit claiming that the motto ‘In God We Trust’ violated their rights and amounted to religious coercion.

They lost.

Repeated losses in the court system aren’t stopping the left from continuing their assault on God.

Extremist Democrats have recently been removing the phrase “so help me God” from the oath administered to witnesses testifying before congressional committees.

In 2012, the DNC famously attempted to restore a reference to God to their party platform, a notion that a large and loud group of delegates at the convention continually booed.

  • Thank you, Supreme Court, for ruling on the side of decency and common sense! To demolish this memorial erected to honor those from Bladenburg who died in WWI would be a TRAVESTY against BOTH. Note to atheists: There is NO "right not to be offended" listed in the Constitution. There IS, however, a First Amendment that FORBIDS the government from interfering in right to worship, or any form of "religious expression"--EVEN if some Leftist LOON "atheist" disagrees!

We know your game--get THIS memorial demolished, and next thing we know, you'd be demanding the removal of crosses in all our national cemeteries. God- and America-hating liberals--including so-called "atheists"--just need to sit down and SHUT UP and quit trying to trample everybody ELSE's Constitutionally guaranteed religious rights!

Atheists are LIARS anyhow. They claim they don't believe in God. if they don't believe in HIM, WHY are they constantly waging WAR AGAINST HIM?

  • I look at it this way; the memorial was originally erected on private property and as such was protected form this sort of legal folderol. When the state assumed ownership of the plot of land with this memorial, it assumed perpetual protection of it. If the atheists and other anti-religious m orons don't like it... tough!

  • Let’s all remember who the majority of these anti-American and anti-Christian folks are: the demorats. The same folks who have voted no on increased benefits to our veterans, no on COLA raises for our seniors who legitimately earned their Social Security; and no on tax reform that will give we working class citizens more expendable income; the same sick perverts that instead have fought every move President Trump has made to protect us by building a wall and enforcing immigration; and instead have allowed criminals back into our country, paying these bums and illegals more money than most seniors and veterans get after working and paying taxes their entire lives, and give them housing & cell phones to boot. These demorats are traitors to we Americans— all they are interested in is staying in office so they can figure out more ways to extort our money (taxes) into their own pockets. They don’t care that they’re selling us all down the river; all they care about is themselves. It’s time we all wake up and vote the entire corrupt party into oblivion! We need to not vote for any demorats EVER AGAIN!!! Let’s get rid of them all and take our country back! God Bless America!

  • On Christian beliefs yes.

Neither atheists, nor possibly Muslims, want to remove Christianity from our country--

It would seem as if you have not examined the teachings and practice of Judaism towards Christianity. It is not Muslims who file complaints and lawsuits against Chrisrmas, nor judges in the Supreme Court who vote against the Cross, or who direct the ADl against all things Christian and who bring lawsuits against Christmas decorations, the Nativity, or seek to remove "Merry Christmas" from the languages and the Cross from sight...or worse...

Look to the anti-Christ movement...it is in full ascendance...

  • I totally agree with you.....it is not my place to wish ill harm against anyone nor to determine the punishment that is to be given to anyone. Karma will find its way to their door steps and punishment will be determined by our Heavenly Father....G-d!
Ginsberg is just like John McCain. He needed to step down from Congress once he found out he was terminal and was unable to make rational decisions....he needed to go back to AZ and spend the rest of his time enjoying those who enjoyed and loved him the most, his family. Ginsberg needs to step down and go home to her family and enjoy what time she has left. How can she make a rational decision when she is sleeping 3/4's of the time??? As for Sonia Sotomayor, she is a hater and against our Constitution....she just needs to go away and live in a country where other haters of America go to live!!! Thank you to the Justices that know the Constitution and love America!!

  • First I thought it was an oversized sort of farm promo rake, on closer approach and in front of the White House no less, it looked more like a giant pitchfork from Hell...Expecting the rest of Satan to materialize nearby, asked a bearded fellow with funny sideburns there instead if this hideous looking thing had any religious significance, you know like the Cross, and if so what was it doing there on government property? The response was to assure and reassure me that this thing, supposedly a Menorah(but and I have seen some really nice ones at synagogue) has been legally argued and found to be a mere secular object, no different, than say Liberace's famous piano candelabra or Satan's pitchfork, or whatever...Go figure...
Now I can see why any ADL, or anti-Christ, would get its knickers in a twist over any Cross... especially such a nice and big one...
