Study Proves Conservative Baby Boom Will Turn Country Further Right

There’s an interesting theory that some social scientists argue over regarding public opinion on abortion called the “Roe Effect.” Explained simply, the Roe Effect explains that societies tend to become more pro-life over time simply because people who identify as pro-life have more children than people who identify as pro-choice (who are also more likely to have abortions, obviously). Much like one’s religion, a person’s political views are strongly influenced by what they were taught in their upbringing. Pro-life parents tend to produce children who have pro-life leanings later in life, and vice versa.

The same appears to be true regarding conservatism overall. Democrats lost over 1,000 seats at the federal, state, and local level during Barack Obama’s presidency, and there’s a new wave of conservative voters growing up to keep it that way.

A baby boom among conservatives could push the nation’s politics further right in the coming decades, especially since liberals aren’t having as many children, according to a new study of online dating habits of conservatives and liberals.

The study featured in a Harvard University Shorenstein Center review of recent surveys released Tuesday on how political polarization of the nation is impacting Washington’s budget talks is the first to challenge left-leaning pundits who have claimed that as the white population shrinks, the GOP will become marginalized.

Deep in the study, “The Dating Preferences of Liberals and Conservatives,” the authors cite indications that conservative families are having more children than liberals and that could change the political tilt of the nation, according to their simulations. And, they added, it could happen faster than their tests show.

Unless liberals start having more kids, or become more politically engaged relative to conservatives to offset the imbalance, these trends “might exert a noticeable effect on political outcomes.”

The study didn’t provide any explanation for why conservatives have more children, but it could simply be because there are naturally different values held by liberals and conservatives that lead to liberals having 41 percent fewer children on average than conservatives.

Of course, I can think of another explanation for the child-gap too…..

Whatever the cause, it sure does point to a brighter future for conservatives. And I think that’s a big victory!
