In a quest to find solutions to combat possible shooters, the Blue Mountain School District in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania has left no stone unturned. Literally.
The district has opted to place buckets full of river stones in each classroom as a means for students to fight back against an armed intruder. No, we’re not making this up.
“Protocol has been that students lie down, under desks and basically become passive targets on our classrooms,” Superintendent Davis Helsel explained. “We decided to empower our students with tools of self-defense if needed.”
Wouldn’t it be slightly more empowering if the tools of self-defense included an armed resource officer or an armed teacher?

Anti-gun nuts have been complaining about so-called “weapons of war” being too powerful even for police to combat with their own handguns.
“Who wants to go down the barrel of an AR-15, even with a Glock?” future Democrat spokesman David Hogg questioned.
Yet, here we are asking students in a classroom to ‘go down the barrel of an AR-15’ by launching pebbles at a mass shooter. Brilliant!
“At one time I just had the idea of river stone,” Helsel said. “They’re the right size for hands, you can throw them very hard and they will create or cause pain, which can distract.”
He may be onto something there. No doubt the shooter would be distracted by thoughts of ‘they can’t possibly be this stupid.’

Fox News host Pete Hegseth slammed the district for coming up with a “fundamentally unserious” proposal to combat an active shooter.
Helsel has explained that the bucket of rocks would serve as a last resort should there be a shooting, with the school implementing a procedure known as ALICE which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.
“We understand that a gun is much more deadly than a stone,” Helsel added. “It’s our hope that we can somehow stop the ability of an armed intruder to enter our classrooms.”
