Struggling With Latino Voters, Biden Plays ‘Despacito’ At Hispanic Heritage Month Speech

Struggling to court Latino voters, Joe Biden decided to pander by playing the Spanish-language song “Despacito” while kicking off his Hispanic Heritage Month speech Tuesday.

“I just have one thing to say. Hang on, here,” Biden said, fumbling to hit the play button on his cell phone.

Rather than hearing the beginning of a speech aimed at Hispanic voters, those in attendance heard “Despacito” playing throughout the venue as the Democrat nominee for President bobbed his head and danced with all the animation of Walter, the ventriloquist dummy of comedian Jeff Dunham.

“I tell ya what, if I had the talent of any one of these people I’d be elected president by acclamation,” Biden chuckled.

The artist behind the 2017 hit song, Luis Fonsi, spoke before Biden at the event.

Cringe

Biden’s off the cuff ‘how do you do fellow Latinos’ moment was embarrassing enough, but it became infinitely more cringeworthy as people began pointing out some of the lyrics to the song.

“The #Despacito bit suggests desperation,” tweeted financial journalist Trish Regan adding, “‘Despacito’ means SLOWLY in Spanish. Not a bright move.”

Definitely not a bright move for somebody who has been alternately pegged by President Trump as ‘sleepy’ or ‘slow.’

Also a bad idea? A song containing these lyrics:

I want to breathe your neck slowly
Let me tell you things in your ears

It gets worse after that.

Perhaps any song involving breathing on one’s neck or whispering in somebody’s ear isn’t the best choice for a guy with a reputation of inappropriately touching women.

Multiple women have come forward to say Biden made them uncomfortable by invading their personal space, including grabbing their shoulders and smelling their hair.

The allegations began with former Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores, who alleged the Democrat nominee inappropriately kissed her and smelled her hair.

Biden has also been accused of sexual assault by Tara Reade, a former staff assistant.

Biden’s Poll Number With Latinos Are So Sad – Alexa, Play Despacito

Why would the former Vice President travel all the way to Kissimmee, Florida to deliver a roughly 18-minute speech to a small crowd of Hispanic voters?

Desperation.

Polls have consistently shown Biden struggling with Hispanic voters in Florida. Politico reports that Biden’s advantage amongst Latino voters is 16 points less than Hillary Clinton had in 2016 when she lost the state.

Likewise, Trump’s numbers are up, they write, by 2 percentage points “thanks to increased backing from conservative Cuban-American voters and additional support from a broader coalition of Latino voters.”

“#Biden is failing w/Hispanics [because] he has no decent economic policies,” Regan tweeted. “#Latinos KNOW how bad #Cuba, #Venezuela are. Playing a song on your phone isn’t going to change that.”

USA Today reports that Biden “is getting trounced with Cuban American voters in Florida” which they say is “a trend that could tip the state to Trump.”

Biden’s camp admits they have “work to do” in order to earn the trust of Hispanic voters in Florida, though it’s not clear how playing “Despacito” for them will accomplish their goals.
