Rep. Steve Scalise Admitted Back Into Intensive Care

It appears Rep. Steve Scalise is not out of the woods yet.

The Republican Congressman who was hit by a leftist would-be assassin’s bullet last month is still struggling to survive his injuries. Late Wednesday night the hospital announced that he has been readmitted to the intensive care unit because of new concerns of infection. His condition was downgraded from “fair” to “serious.”

Rep. Scalise’s Twitter account provided the news.

The last update from the hospital came on June 23 announcing he had left the ICU: “Congressman Steve Scalise’s continued good progress allowed him to be transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Thursday (June 22). He remains in fair condition as he continues an extended period of healing and rehabilitation.”

The hospital described the significant injuries he suffered: “Congressman Steve Scalise sustained a single wound from a rifle, entering in the area of his left hip. The bullet traveled straight across toward the other hip, in what we call a transpelvic gunshot wound. The round fragmented, and caused significant damage to bones, internal organs and blood vessels.”

Rep. Scalise has not left the hospital since he and 4 others were shot on June 14 at a practice for the annual Congressional baseball game. Many other Republican Congressmen were there at the time and they were intentionally targeted by a deranged Bernie Sanders volunteer who hated Trump.

Meanwhile, President Trump has been a source of support for the Scalise family. Since the shooting he has visited Rep. Scalise in the hospital and hosted his family at the White House.

Please keep Rep. Scalise and his family in your prayers!
