Starbucks, the ubiquitous coffee chain with a liberal corporate policy, has unveiled its cups for the 2018 Christmas season. These cups, which are donned in festive red and green, are a big departure from the plain holiday cups of 2015.
Starbucks’ war on Christmas in 2015
Remember back in 2015 when Starbucks unveiled its “holiday” cups that had nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas? Here they were, in their hideously plain design:

Conservatives were outraged that Starbucks undermined the Christmas season by, in their view, giving in to liberal secularism. Starbucks heard the message back then, and has slowly begun to incorporate Christmas decor back into their cups. Here is the design from 2017:

New Starbucks holiday cups for 2018
Now, Starbucks just unveiled the brand new cups for 2018. There is a notable change: they are really embracing the Christmas spirit. Check it out:

Now that’s what I’m talking about! If liberals were trying to draft Starbucks into the war on Christmas, it seems like they failed.
The Howard Schultz 2020 angle
Of course, there may be a catch. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is rumored to be seriously considering a presidential bid under the Democrat banner. Schultz has publicly attacked Trump and has instituted many progressive business policies, including shutting down his chain for a day to teach his employees about race relations. Going back to traditional Christmas cups could be a feint by Schultz. He could be biding his time, avoiding unnecessary conflicts, before announcing his bid.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see what Schultz ultimately does. For now, it’s smart business to not cause unnecessary waves. And I expect Trump may yet take credit for getting Starbucks back on track and in the Christmas spirit.
