St. Paul BLM Chapter Founder Quits – Admits Opposition To School Choice Is Racist

Rashad Turner, the Founder of a Black Lives Matter chapter in St. Paul Minnesota recently stepped down from the organization. He says the reason for his departure is that he feels that the group is “racist” against black children because they oppose school choice.

Turner took to YouTube a week ago and stated that his decision to leave the group was prompted by BLM denouncing, along with the Teachers’ Union, school choice. During an interview on the Fox News Channel, he described BLM’s opposition to school choice as, “a direct attack on black families and on black children.”

Finding Out The Truth By Being On The Inside

According to a report from Fox News, Rashad Turner founded the St. Paul Minnesota chapter of BLM because, as he said, “I believed the organization stood for exactly what the name implies – Black lives do matter. However, after a year on the inside, I learned they had little concern for rebuilding Black families.” 

Turner says that what he found being on the inside of the organization was very different from what he believed. Turner continued, and said that not only did he feel that BLM had “little concern” for rebuilding black families, they had even less concern for, “improving the quality of education for students in Minneapolis.”

Turner added that,”The question I always ask folks: How can Black lives matter if Black minds don’t matter?”

Education For Black Children Not A High Priority For BLM

During his interview with Fox News, Rashad Turner talked about Black Lives Matters’ ties to Teacher’s Unions and the Democrat Party.

“They’ve been co-opted by teachers unions, specifically at the national level, the American Federation of Teachers, and here locally in Minnesota, Education Minnesota. These teachers unions own the Democrats, they own BLM, and teachers unions, in my opinion, they kill our children’s hopes and dreams. So, if we’re thinking about black children doing what’s best for black families, we have to start with education.”

Turner also talked about the availability of things like school savings accounts, saying that there is not one black family in his neighborhood that is in opposition to things like charter schools and school vouchers. 

He continued, saying that anyone who is opposed to those things, “you’re right, I’d say they are a racist. Because we know charter schools are creating opportunities.”

Black Lives Matter Under The Microscope

Black Lives Matter has been the object of some scrutiny in recent months. Back in February of this year, it was revealed that following the death of George Floyd last summer, Black Lives Matter collected roughly $90 million dollars in donations. At the end of 2020, the Black Lives Matter Foundation reported that they ended the year with a balance of around $60 million on hand. 

According to the Foundation themselves, approximately one third of their income went to things like operating expenses, grants, and donating to other charities.

People such as Michael Brown Sr. asked publicly where all the money donated to BLM was going. The death of Brown Sr.’s son Michael Brown Jr. in 2014 involving a white police officer in Ferguson Missouri sparked months of protests all over the nation

Brionna Taylor’s mother called Black Lives Matter “frauds,” and said that while the organization raised money on behalf of Taylor’s family, the group had never done anything for the family.

In April, a report from the New York Post stated that co-founder and now former executive director for the Black Lives Matter Foundation Patrisse Cullors had purchased four luxurious homes in recent years, totaling $3.2 million. While there is no evidence to suggest that the homes were paid for with foundation money, Cullors’ personal finances have also come into question.

Cullors resigned as executive director of the Foundation last month. She has previously described herself and other BLM Co-Founders as “trained Marxists.” Rashad Turner may have discovered not only that fact, but when he joined in 2015, the BLM website would have still had this goal of the organization on its website.

“We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.”
