Six high-ranking U.S. Senators just sent a letter to President Donald Trump’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson demanding a sweeping investigation of the Obama White House’s efforts to affect the outcome of foreign elections.
The letter focuses on taxpayer dollars given to far-leftwing groups such as the Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros. These dollars were used to “push a progressive agenda” and “invigorate the political left” in other countries.
The letter is signed by Republican Senators Thom Tillis (NC), Mike Lee (UT), Jim Inhofe (OK), Ted Cruz (TX), David Perdue (GA), and Bill Cassidy (LA). And they are questioning the use of USAID funds directed to the U.S. Mission in Macedonia which have been helping build a coalition government since the December elections.
The letter reads, “Unfortunately, we have received credible reports that, over the past few years, the U.S. Mission there has actively intervened in the party politics of Macedonia, as well as in the shaping of its media environment and civil society, often favoring left-leaning political groups over others.” It notes these senators “find these reports discouraging and, if true, highly problematic.”
The letter also notes taxpayer dollars were used to influence elections in other countries too, such as Albania. The efforts, which awarded Soros money for the Strategy Document for Albanian Judicial Reform, was ultimately focused on giving the Prime Minister and a left-wing government full power over the judiciary.
The letter concludes, “We must take this critical moment – at the start of a new administration — to review how all our tax dollars are being utilized in order to halt activities that are fomenting political unrest, disrespecting national sovereignty and civil society, and ultimately undermining our attempts to build beneficial international relationships.”

There is no excuse for the Obama administration’s willingness to spend taxpayer dollars to manipulate elections in foreign countries. These types of actions hurt America’s relationships with foreign governments and waste taxpayer dollars to advance liberalism around the world.
