It’s not news that our politics has become polarized, with an increasing amount of violence being committed by those politically-minded. And for some reason, a disproportionate amount of that violence is directed at Republicans.
If you remember last year, a crazed Bernie Sanders supporter shot up a field of Republican congressmen, nearly killing House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. There have been other minor incidents since then, with late-night funnyman Jimmy Kimmel threatening to pound a Fox News host, and Scott Pruitt, chief of the Environmental Protection Agency, upping his amount of private security in response to threats against his life. Then, of course, there were threats from former Vice President Joe Biden to beat the “hell out of” President Trump earlier this week.
Now, another instance of anti-Republican violence has come to light. Rep. Scott Taylor of Virginia had his life threatened by one of his own constituents.
Politico reports:
According to court documents, Wallace Grove Godwin, 69, visited Taylor’s office on Thursday and threatened to shoot him and two staffers at a Saturday event. The dispute arose, according to the District Attorney’s office, over a discussion about marijuana policy.
“Scott is having an event this Saturday. I am going to get my shotgun and do something about this. I will just handle this myself,” Godwin allegedly said to a Taylor staffer. He then pointed to two staffers in the room and said, “You two are next,” authorities said.

Talk about deranged! Godwin may have wanted to talk drug policy, but he was clearly on a few narcotics himself. Let’s hope a nice stint in jail will straighten him out. There’s no room in America for that kind of talk.
