In a move that can only be termed full of nerve and gall, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is asking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for a “fair and honest” trial if, as looks probable, the Dem-led House votes to impeach President Donald Trump later this week.

The White House immediately pushed back on Schumer’s comments: White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham wrote on Twitter, “’Let us hope that fairness will prevail’” — a laughable quote from @SenSchumer this a.m. … after the Dems release an ‘impeachment report’ in the middle of the night.”
“Thankfully the people of this country continue to see the partisan sham that this is,” she added.
After two separate sets of House hearings in which the Dems, led by Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.): A) gagged witnesses and questions from the GOP minority, B) switched a witness to questioner, C) silenced inconvenient statements challenging their behavior, D) refused to consider factual evidence, E) allowed hearsay and innuendo into the record, and F) disallowed repeated requests for minority witnesses — the Dems now want special treatment as they define it to proceed in the Senate, where the tables are turned on them?
I believe there is a saying having to do with goose and gander.
Dems want to again control the witness list by asking for carte blanche in calling to the stand whomever they expect will buttress their empty case.
These individuals include former Trump administration official John Bolton, who served as national security adviser; acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney; Mulvaney aide Robert Blair; and budget official Michael Duffey.
McConnell may be inclined to grant some or none of these wishes. He has the power and the right to do so in response to Dem actions in the House.
The Dems may instead see a witness lineup featuring CIA informant Eric Ciaramella, former Vice President Joe Biden, Biden’s son Hunter Biden, former British spy and creator of the notorious Steele dossier Christopher Steele, disgraced former FBI Director James Comey, and perhaps even, in a surprise move, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Make no mistake: Schumer is hoping for a long trial in which he and his Senate caucus can paralyze the federal government and give left-wing groups the time to agitate against the GOP Senate, much as they unsuccessfully tried to derail the confirmation hearings of current Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
McConnell, the president, and the overwhelming majority of the GOP Senate caucus have already gone on record against impeachment and against the charges brought against the president through impeachment.

They tend to favor a speedy trial in the Senate so that the government can get back to doing the business of the people.
But that is not likely to stop House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Schumer, and their various hard-Left allies, as they will take to the streets and the airwaves in a propaganda effort that will dwarf anything yet seen.

Expect the major media, which were silent on Democrat abuses during the House hearings, to labor hard to label the Senate trial “unfair” and “biased.”
They will gush over every utterance against the president and dismiss his defense in a steady drumbeat designed to convince any possible Republican renegade senators to find the president guilty.
However, their agitprop will likely fall far afield — as by a wide margin the GOP has the numbers to acquit.
After that transpires, the Dems and their minions will bay and ululate in a fashion not seen since the nationally gratifying night of Nov. 9, 2016.
The trial will most likely begin in January.
