In a stunning decision Thursday, a San Francisco jury cleared Kate Steinle killer Jose Ines Garcia Zarate of all murder, manslaughter, and assault charges. Instead, all they charged him with was illegal possession of a firearm.
Many people have reacted with outrage to the verdict, and rightfully so. Garcia Zarate is a five-time deported illegal alien felon; he should not have been in the country. But, like all sanctuary cities, San Francisco seems to value the “rights” of illegal alien criminals over those of law-abiding American citizens – a fact that former Gov. Sarah Palin clearly pointed out in her scathing take-down of the verdict.
Such an insane recent news cycle, and now this?? Outrageous “not guilty” verdict in murder case of Kate Steinle. The illegal alien who shot her was just given more rights, grace and favor than the devastated Steinle family. San Francisco is NOT a safe place. – SP

Sarah’s right. San Francisco is NOT a safe place whatsoever.
Numerous lawmakers share in Palin’s sentiment, and several have vowed to seek justice for Kate and her family.
Very upsetting #KateSteinle verdict. This is a sad day for our country. Elected officials in Sanctuary Cities and those that defend them in Congress have allowed this to happen. Shame on them.

I’m disappointed with the justice system. Today was injustice to many who have lost family by Illegal Unvetted Criminals. #KateSteinle will have her peace.

As Congressman, I see a #BigWall and justice for #KateSteinle.

California’s dangerous sanctuary cities policy cost #KateSteinle her life & gave her no justice. Thankful to join @POTUS in the fight to strengthen our immigration laws & ensure this never happens again. https://t.co/KjQGWofTlf

Kate Steinle’s family has suffered an agonizing loss and now have been denied justice for the man who shot and killed her. 1/2

If our immigration laws were enforced, Kate would be alive today. I defy anyone to defend that murderer’s right to be on the San Francisco pier the night he took her life. 2/2

I greatly respect our jury system, but I could not disagree more with this verdict. I pray for Kate’s family. https://t.co/5Vvgo3Pu7r

Thankfully, the Justice Department has decided to step in. A spokesperson told “Fox & Friends” Friday that the department would consider pursuing federal charges against Garcia Zarate. “We’re looking at every option and we will prosecute this to the fullest extent available under the law because these cases are tragic and entirely preventable,” Sarah Isgur Flores, the DOJ Director of Public Affairs, said.
Hopefully the federal government will correct California’s abhorrent mistake and finally grant the Steinle family some peace. At the absolute very least, Garcia Zarate should be charged with involuntary manslaughter and deported for good.
