President Donald Trump’s first year in office was a prosperous one (certainly compared to the past eight years) – but few prospered as well as 6-year-old “Ryan” (no last name provided for privacy purposes), a YouTube star who passed ten figures before his tenth birthday. When most people think of child celebrities they think of child actors, but in the age of social media, anyone can become a star.

Since he was three-years-old, his parents had been recording and uploading videos of him opening toys, playing with them, and reviewing them onto a YouTube channel called “Ryan ToysReview.” The channel has since racked up over 10 million subscribers and 17 billion (yes, with a b) views. According to his mother (who declined to be named), Ryan had been inspired by other review channels he was watching on YouTube. “One day, he asked me, ‘How come I’m not on YouTube when all the other kids are?” she said.

As for his earnings? According to the Tampa Bay Times,

An examination by Forbes magazine that created a list of the highest paid YouTube entrepreneurs showed that he was ranked number eight, having brought in $11 million in revenue between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017, before management fees and taxes, of course.

Combined, the world’s 10 highest-paid YouTube stars earned $127 million, up 80 percent from last year. According to Forbes, this boost came thanks to ad dollars from a surge in views — including a healthy sum from “Ryan ToysReview.” During the 12 months considered by Forbes, “Ryan ToysReview” counted over 8 billion views.

His strategy is relatively simple and straightforward, garnering income from YouTube advertisements, and partnering with toy brands that have taken notice of him.

Not a bad gig – especially considering that he’s out-earning child actors, while playing to a niche demographic. I doubt the kid will even understand just how lucky he is for a number of years to come!
