Embattled Senate candidate Roy Moore may have just gotten a lifeline.

The former Alabama judge has been facing heavy pressure to drop his Senate bid after The Washington Post ran a story about four women accusing Moore of sexually harassing them as teenagers. The claims are something out of a smutty romance novel – Moore, as a 30-year-old man, sought out relationships with girls half his age, and minors to boot.

Moore has steadfastly denied these claims, calling them a political hit job when he’s just weeks away from an assumed victory in the general election. Even Republican leaders are asking him to drop his bed for the Senate.

But an interesting report just emerged.

The Conservative Tribune has an account from a woman who worked with Moore as a teenager. The woman, who goes by “Beth,” spoke to the website in an exclusive interview.

“Yes, I absolutely believe (the) Judge is innocent! I’ve known him and his family for years. I was a teenager when I first started working in his campaign. And he always honored and respected me and all the others. I always felt safe around him, I never once felt uncomfortable.”

Here’s more from Beth: “And even if I didn’t know him personally, I would find it suspicious that these women are just now coming out with this. He’s been running for office for the past 17 years and been a judge for even longer. So why, if this did happen … why didn’t they come out about this before now? They’ve had plenty of chances.”

Beth is right to be suspicious, but consider the environment. The allegations against Hollywood mega-mogul and liberal donor Harvey Weinstein have completely changed the environment when it comes to sexual harassment. The women accusing Weinstein were intimidated into silence before, either by Weinstein’s army of high-powered lawyers or his ability to tank their careers early.

Not anymore. The public has now wised up on the sexual shenanigans that go on in Tinseltown. I imagine it’s the same case with Moore. Now that the media is more receptive to claims of sexual harassment against powerful individuals, these women may have felt it was safer to speak out now. Certainly, there is liberal bias at play, as a Republican candidate is being targeted, but these allegations should be taken seriously.

Likewise, Moore’s supporters should be taken seriously as well.
