Comedian Ricky Gervais has never been afraid to take on the forces of political correctness, and he is now blasting the Antifa radicals who recently physically assaulted Quillette editor Andy Ngo.
Gervais pointed out on Twitter how ridiculous it is that leftists who think “speech is violence” seem to have no problem committing actual physical violence against others.
“It’s interesting that the people who believe that throwing a milkshake in someone’s face shouldn’t be considered assault are often the same people who believe that ‘saying things’ should be,” the comedian tweeted.
Of course, the far left attacked Gervais and his sensible comments.
“Tell me more about letting nazis ‘say things’ wouldnt hurt anyone,” one user responded.
“Oh, come on, Ricky. This is utter bulls**t, and you know it. If you don’t, you should,” said another.
“It’s interesting that people who believe ‘sayings things’ is harmless are often white men of European descent,” added a third Twitter user.
That’s when Gervais responded with another tweet.
“Whatever side you’re on politically, ‘left’ or ‘right’, you don’t need violent factions joining you or representing you,” Gervais tweeted. “They bring your cause into disrepute. They don’t even care about your cause, they’re just in it for the violence. Denounce them.”
“After studying science, philosophy, theology and socio-economic history for many years, I have concluded that the big problem is that so many people are f***ing stupid,” he later tweeted.
Taking a stand for free speech is not new for Gervais–and he’s not even a conservative.
The attacks on him for defending free speech only indicate how radical the left has become.
“I’m an old fashioned liberal lefty, champagne socialist type of guy. A pro-equality, opportunity-for-all, welfare state snowflake. But, if I ever defend freedom of speech on here, I’m suddenly an alt-right Nazi. How did that happen?” he tweeted in January.
Good for Gervais for being an “old fashioned liberal lefty” who still cherishes freedom of expression as opposed to the extremism that now defines the hard left including a significant part of the Democratic Party.

The Democratic party has left the barn a long time ago,which is why I left the party many years ago.The progressives are following the Saul Alinsky handbook tactics and are now pretty much a terrorist organization(as far as I'm concerned).How long will the old Democrats continue to vote for these radicals...Remember...We are the last bastion of freedom,no where else to go after,think about that.
There is no common ground between a true liberal and a leftist. Leftists stole the labe to try and legitimize themselves.
That concern for free speech is precisely the most important difference between a liberal and a "progressive". Liberals see freedom of speech as an absolute good, necessary for a good and free society--and it's important to them to have a free society. "Progressives" see free speech as a useful tool for advancing "social justice", to be discarded if it might get in the way of their cause. The idea of a free society is not very important to them; what is important is a "socially just" society. Gervais is a liberal; those denouncing him are "progressives". I consider it sickening that a political designation that used to refer to the more liberal wing of the Republican party (Theodore Roosevelt, Robert LaFollette, etc.) has been appropriated to serve a movement less akin to those worthies of a century ago than to Lenin and Castro. (I would just love to be a fly on the wall during a discussion of Latin America between TR and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez).
